BLC 20: Week 6 - Halfway Point

Tuesday, October 23, 2012

The thing I have learned during the past 6 weeks is that I'm not a good team mate. A feel a bit bad about that, 'cause I know how much work and effort the BLC crew puts into this challenge, and then having a dud like me on the team who only participates sometimes and brings down the points average must be a bit frustrating. My apologies, all.

In all honesty, I'm overwhelmed with this challenge.
There is no way for me to keep up with the chat thread, LCW, TNT, weekend challenge. Counting vegetables, passing out goodies, rolling dice, shuffling cards, playing bingo... The ever changing formats and activities have me breathless and confused.

Participating in this challenge made me realize that
a) I don't play well with others :) and
b) I already have a plan in place that works (but does not co-incide with the team's schedule and activities).

Here is what I wrote 6 weeks ago in my intro:
My fitness plan works for me and I intend to keep it up during this challenge and beyond. And that I have done.

I spent 5 hours on the trail yesterday, hiking in the pouring rain, and logged over 35,000 steps. I guess that earned me 50 points for the team. I'll make sure to log them.

As far as food is concerned, I wanted to incorporate more veggies and fruits into my day and be more thoughtful when brown bagging my lunch during the week. I have done both with mixed results and I'll continue working on this.

I have met my goal of increasing average daily steps from 7,500 to 10,000, and continue to work on moving more and sitting less.

To my fellow Panthers - I will see this through best I can.

I find myself in the same boat as you regarding those challenges -- I just can't keep up, even with posting only x times per week (as lame as that may sound). I think they are a great tool for some folks, but if they don't help you reach your personal goals, that's fine, too.

Hiking in the pouring rain? Wow -- you should get bonus points for that! I probably wouldn't have even attempted it since my lack of sure footing would have left me on my arse! ;)

Since the first time I have been reading your blog - you have grown so much in your accomplishments - you have achieved what you wanted and it seems you will continue to achieve more.

You are emoticon and amazing - especially those hikes - my friend does them and they are hard to do and you have to be in great shape to do them.

Have a great weekend :)

Your feelings of being overwhelmed by the amount of "stuff" in the BLC is a recurring theme with participants - myself included. I hope that whoever is in charge also does some reevaluating. There needs to be a balance between team encouragement and camaraderie - and accomplishing the goals for which we joined the challenge!

Sounds like the team leader(s) is making it too frustrating to keep up. Stay focused and do what works for you. emoticon -- Lou

We all get overwhelmed at times and we certainly don't need to be
involved in everything. Pick your favorite and give it your all.

You are doing great!

"Participation, not perfection" -- there's a reason that's our motto in the BLC! We understand that we're each in a different place in our journeys, which is why the only hard-and-fast requirement is that you post 3x/wk and post your WI on time each week. Other than that, do what you can and know we're here to support you all the way!!

Congrats on having a good plan in place and meeting your goal of 10,000 steps! emoticon emoticon emoticon

I understand completely what you are saying. I myself don't have time for all that...but I have time to work on ME and that is what i'm doing one day at a time. Sometimes it works and sometimes I have to scrap it and move forward.

Sorry this got in twice...my computer hiccuped and I thought I had to redo. lol.

I know a challenge like that for me would be a bust. I don't have to time for all that. But I have time for ME. So I work on me each day. Sometimes it works and sometimes I have to scrap the project and begin over again.

Hey, your doing the best you can so don't beat yourself up on the challenge. WE all struggle now and then and feel overwhelmed. I know I do a lot of the times. Just keep trying and pushing yourself like you do and getting all those steps WOW, that amazes me. Hugs.
