You know you are a runner when......

Monday, October 22, 2012

you get bummed out because you have to postpone your weekly long run with the local running store for one day. emoticon

I had to postpone my Saturday run until Sunday due to my mother in law's flight. She went to Venezuela for one week (my husband is half Venezuelan/ half French) and she flew back here, to Miami, Friday night. I take my daughter to speech therapy on Saturdays and the airport is on the way so I had already planned to take my MIL to the airport last week.....that did not happen. Friday night, after my husband picked his mom up from the airport, I was double checking the game plan for the morning. Since my MIL lives in northern Florida, she does not get a chance to enjoy Venezuelan food until she comes to Miami. The new game plan was my husband and his mom getting up at 6:45 to get dressed and have breakfast by 7, chit chat and take her to the airport by 8. Well there goes my Saturday morning run with the group. My husband tried to talk me into still running on Saturday morning, and he would take his mom to breakfast and the airport as planned....just leave the kids at home for about 30 minutes alone. Without a doubt, absolutely no!!! I could not focus on my run knowing my 4 and 7 year old were home alone.

I run alone during the week so I really look forward to running with the group on Saturdays. It is not a huge group, but I feel safe getting a start on my run before the sun comes up. It is still pretty hot and humid here even early in the morning. When I have to do my long runs alone on the weekends, I leave the house a little later (the group run starts at 6:30) Sunday I headed out the door by 7:15. I tried a new route for my 9 miler and I had a good run. I ran over to a park that is fairly large; one lap around is a little short of a mile. This park flows in one direction with a lane for cars, another lane for bikes and one for runners/ walkers. I did 3 laps and with each lap there were more walkers and runners to run around. On my way back, I had to add a little mileage to get in my 9 miles, so I started to turn into a few of the strip malls to add a few more steps. In the first strip mall, I found a nickel...not bad. In the 2nd strip mall, I found $5!!!!! I never find money on my runs so I was ecstatic. And what better way to finish off my Sunday than a trip to the beach. It was very windy. The water was very choppy and not a good day for the little ones to be in the water without an adult nearby. My husband had a little mishap; he went in with his prescription glasses and came out without them. emoticon

Have a great week everyone.

you did the right thing. and you know that it's just an occasional miss ... and running 9 miles by yourself isn't so boring -- i did 12 by myself this morning! way to go, both of us!!!

Daphne, Glad you got your run in, even without the group. What a good Mom you are! A half hour alone doesn't seem too bad for a 7 year old. But my perspective is off, we had our little ones in a different time.
And thanks for commenting on my blog today. Your comments just inspire me so much. - Vic

9 miles on your own is kind of boring, but great job on getting it done. I have a friend who keeps on asking me to run with her, but, I keep on turning her down. I do prefer to run by myself (except with my DH. He'll accommodate to my pace) and my friend has a pace that is way too fast for me. She said she'd slow down, but, I'd rather be on my own. I put my music on and I"m off. Are you training for anything right now?

Nice job running on your own, even though the group would be more fun! :D Life is all about compromise.

Oh, and BTW, the instruction manual on the 210 is lacking. You're not missing much by not reading it!

I have to agree.....4 and 7 too young even if for a little while alone. I know it's tricky working around everyone's schedules to run sometimes. So frustrating!! My kids are 14, 13 and 11 and I leave them now but when I first started running almost 3 years ago, at 11, 10 and 8....it was sketchy. I would just run my street...down and back, down and back. So boring going up and down the street 10 times. But we runners figure out how we can run, when we can run!
WTG on the $5.05! Awesome!
