Questionnaire (borrowed from Heather)

Monday, October 22, 2012

I took this from Heather's blog ( www.sparkpeople.com/mypa
ge_public_journal_individu
al.asp?blog_id=5095657
), and so for grins and procrastination I decided to do one of my own. Here goes:

1. WERE YOU NAMED AFTER ANYONE?
Yes, Katharine Hepburn. Unfortunately, my dad didn't catch the spelling difference of her first name! I got the more conventional spelling. ;)

2. WHEN WAS THE LAST TIME YOU CRIED?
About a week ago. I feel like crying every day right now from the depression, but I try to only do it when I really need the release.

3. DO YOU LIKE YOUR HANDWRITING?
Not always. It reminds me of my mother's writing sometimes, which creeps me out. However, I like my signature.

4. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE LUNCH MEAT?
Hummus. ;) Turkey is an okay standby.

5. DO YOU HAVE KIDS?
No, just two pups.

6. IF YOU WERE ANOTHER PERSON, WOULD YOU BE FRIENDS WITH YOU?
Probably not. I'm quirky, fairly flaky, extraordinarily busy, depressed, and sometimes condescending even though I don't mean to be. When I have free time, which is rare, I prefer to spend it with my husband & dogs. I don't make friends easily. My virtues are that I'm very giving (one reason I'm very busy) and that I can be funny (and maybe even fun). For those reasons, I would tolerate me and consider me an acquaintance.

7. DO YOU USE SARCASM A LOT?
Yes, and it can get me in trouble, particularly if I mean it to be funny but instead hurt someone's feelings.

8. DO YOU STILL HAVE YOUR TONSILS?
Yes, but they're much too large and probably should have been removed when I was a child.

9. WOULD YOU BUNGEE JUMP?
Highly dubious.

10. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE CEREAL?
Grits, oatmeal, cream of wheat. I really only like hot cereals.

11. DO YOU UNTIE YOUR SHOES WHEN YOU TAKE THEM OFF?
No, no need.

12. DO YOU THINK YOU ARE STRONG?
It depends. Physically, no. Mentally, I can be. Emotionally, not even close. I am not a quitter, and I have fortitude when it comes to certain goals. If it's an academic or professional goal, I can fight until the bitter end. If I need to fight for someone else's rights, e.g., a sibling or a friend, I am absolutely tenacious. However, when it comes to my emotions, I am fractured. My moods are labile, and I am easily injured. I have post-traumatic stress disorder, and while I work on that and am healing, it's a very slow process. I sometimes still feel very broken. This is one reason why I would like to be physically strong. I think it would help.

13. WHAT IS YOUR FAVORITE ICE CREAM?
Oh, I haven't eaten it in years now I think, but it will always, always be mint chocolate chip.

14. WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU NOTICE ABOUT PEOPLE?
Eyes. You can tell so much about a person's trustworthiness from their eyes. I hate to admit that I'm naturally distrustful of others, but I like to see their eyes when they tell me things. The odd thing is that I have a hard time looking some people in the eyes. Weird, huh? It's a self-confidence thing.

15. RED OR PINK?
If those are the only two choices, red.

16. WHAT IS THE LEAST FAVORITE THING ABOUT YOURSELF?
Too many things, but for the sake of brevity I'll say it's my perfectionism.

17. WHO DO YOU MISS THE MOST?
Right this second, my best friend who lives in Denver. It's because you asked me if I would want me as a friend. Sigh.

18. WHAT IS THE FITNESS TECHNIQUE THAT YOU NEED TO WORK ON THE MOST?
LOL, everything. Ok, jogging and pushups.

19. WHAT COLOR SHOES ARE YOU WEARING?
In blue slippers, at the moment.

20. WHAT WAS THE LAST THING YOU ATE?
Brown rice and kale casserole that I made for a potluck I went to with lab mates tonight.

21. WHAT ARE YOU LISTENING TO RIGHT NOW?
Custom playlist. Right now, Mirrors by Gemini Club is on. Next will be Big in Japan by Alphaville. I know, odd taste.

22. IF YOU WERE A CRAYON, WHAT COLOR WOULD YOU BE?
Well, I had to look some up because I couldn't recall any. If you need them, they can be found here: http://www.colourlovers.com/we
b/blog/2008/04/22/all-120-
crayon-names-color-codes-a
nd-fun-facts

Anyway, I always liked Sunset Orange, Apricot, Yellow Green, Jungle Green, Sea Green, Pine Green, and Cornflower. If I had to pick only one, I would go with Yellow Green.

23. FAVORITE SMELLS?
vanilla, peppermint, autumn

24. WHO WAS THE LAST PERSON YOU TALKED TO ON THE PHONE?
My voicemail. LOL. The last full-length phone conversation was with my younger brother.

25. MOUNTAIN HIDEAWAY OR BEACH HOUSE?
Tough call. I grew up on the ocean and I miss that a lot. There's nothing like being able to stare across a vast expanse of water into the horizon. A few years ago, however, I fell desperately in love with the Rockies. So, I would love that too. I honestly don't know. Just give me one. ;)

26. FAVORITE SPORTS TO WATCH?
I only watch live, minor league hockey, with my husband, and if I'm allowed to root for the away team. I think home court/field/ice advantages are tacitly unfair. :) Otherwise, I used to watch my dad and younger siblings play baseball and wish I could join them. In general, however, I don't like watching sports.

27. HAIR COLOR?
Blonde, but it has darkened the last couple of years. It's still not quite brown, but it's a lot darker than it used to be.

28. EYE COLOR?
Green, but they can also "change" color with what I'm wearing to blue or grey. It's because I have green, blue, and grey in my iris, but certain colored tops enhance one color more than others, e.g., if I wear a blue top my eyes look blue.

29. DO YOU WEAR CONTACTS?
No, I hate contacts. When I began needing corrective lenses, I had to go with glasses all the way. Now I would feel naked without them!

30. FAVORITE FOOD?
I don't know. Probably something terrible for me, so I'll just pretend I have no favorite foods. I really, really wish it were something healthy, but it isn't. Maybe one day.

31. SCARY MOVIES OR HAPPY ENDINGS?
Happy endings, definitely. I can't watch scary movies, generally.

32. LAST MOVIE YOU WATCHED?
Citizen Kane

33. WHAT COLOR SHIRT ARE YOU WEARING?
Pale yellow

34. SUMMER OR WINTER?
Summer if it's in Wyoming or Wisconsin (i.e., mild) or Winter if it's in … oh wait, Wyoming or Wisconsin! I hate both summer and winter where I currently live. Autumn and spring are pleasant here, though.

35. HUGS OR KISSES?
Yes, please.

36. FAVORITE DESSERT?
The aforementioned mint chocolate chip ice cream. It's has always been my favorite. Otherwise, something with lemon.

37. STRENGTH TRAINING OR CARDIO?
Definitely cardio.

38. COMPUTER OR TELEVISION?
Computer

39. WHAT BOOK ARE YOU READING NOW?
The Selfish Gene by Richard Dawkins. I don't know why it's taken me this long to read it.

40. WHAT IS ON YOUR MOUSE PAD?
A B&W photo of an ocean with a storm mounting over it.

42. FAVORITE SOUND?
waves of the Gulf of Mexico, rain on a metal roof, the harp, my husband's voice

43. ROLLING STONES OR BEATLES?
Depends on my mood. Both can be overrated, but I'll go with… the Stones? No, wait, the Beatles. No, wait. Yeah, just wait.

44. WHAT IS THE FARTHEST YOU HAVE BEEN FROM HOME?
Europe - I lived in Austria when I was 19. Although, technically, that was my home at the time. However, having grown up in Florida, that was pretty far away from "home".

45. DO YOU HAVE A SPECIAL TALENT?
None. At this point, my husband would yell at me, so I'll just say that I'm reasonably intelligent, a tad artistic and musical, and I love to write poems and stories. Really, I'm just a dilettante - a dabbler in many things and proficient in few. Oh, and I'm incredibly stubborn. Yes, that's a very special talent.

46. WHERE WERE YOU BORN?
In a small city in the panhandle of Florida.

47. WHERE ARE YOU LIVING NOW?
Thankfully, nowhere in the panhandle of Florida.

48. WHAT COLOR IS YOUR HOUSE?
Brick with white trim.

49. WHAT COLOR IS YOUR CAR?
Blue, but a strange shade of blue. It's almost purple, but not quite. It is a lighter hue. There are very few cars of this color. The technical name is "Jazz Blue". :|

50. WHAT SHOULD YOU BE DOING RIGHT NOW?
Studying, working, biking, sleeping… any of those would be acceptable!

I'm glad you filled this out too :) We actually just got rid of a jazz blue car. I honestly thought it was a mistake in the shop when they painted it because I've only ever seen one other car that color.

Also, loved your answer "Thankfully, nowhere in the panhandle of Florida."
