Paleo! With a great recipe too!

Monday, October 22, 2012

Alright guys. So after much thought and planning I have switched to a mostly Paleo diet. Been doing it for about a week and so far so good. It has actually been really easy. The changes I've made this week-cut out white and artificial sugars, switched to agave and honey used sparingly. I cut out grains, but full disclosure here, I did eat one flour tortilla(gasp). I'm not planning on being overly obsessive, especially with holidays coming up. I also made sure to eat lots of lean protein and veggies. It's not low carb necessarily, but lower than the spark diet recommends. In fact after tracking for a few days it seems to be on the high end of protein, high on fat and low on carbs. All within macro range and calorie range. I seem to be less hungry with less cravings. My trigger foods before were pizza and cake. The worst for me. Eat them one day and I would be need them constantly. Had a few big successes this week. Lost 5lbs! Avoided junk food at the pumpkin farm. Hey there candy apple, nope, not hungry, thanks. Been trying to get my husband on board but he really likes his sweet drinks. I do the grocery shopping and cooking so at least for dinner he's eating what I make. He has really liked everything so far. Yeah, it's really been a problem getting my husband to eat more meat. Never. Made the best dinner tonight. 1-chopped red bell pepper, 1-chopped onion, 2 celery stalks chopped, 1 tbsp olive oil, 2 andouille sausages chopped, 1 sweet potato peeled and chopped, and 1 c. chicken broth. Cook all the veggies, minus the sweet potatoes in the oil until soft, then add the sweet potatoes to brown, then add the sausage and cook until warm, then add the broth and cook until the sweet potato is soft. All in all it took about 20-30 minutes to cook. It was so good and would make a great breakfast with eggs too. Think it might be one of my new favorites. This is making me rethink what I cook and get creative. My one non paleo item that I eat on a regular is greek yogurt. There are times when I just can't face meat or eggs and I use it in smoothies. Loving a pumpkin pie smoothie right now. Maybe I'll start a daily or most days blog on paleo food and what I ate that day if it's a win. emoticon

It sounds very interesting. I need to look up a paleo diet. I love protein foods in general...but I do also love grains, and I have a terrible sweet tooth, so I imagine it would be very hard for me.
