I am well aware of how fanatic fans can be about their football afterall, i used to start watching football thursday night then friday if games where on and saturday college and the nfl on sunday and nobody misses monday night thats a fan right? I reside in ohio, i went to high school that has the second longest rival Dover vs New Phila....pretty big football state....and i am a steeler fan sorry brownies ....so why brag about my addiction to football ....two reasons one is to accumulate the time we are spending watching others exercise and the second is how did i kick the habit
I know that i am getting ready to attack something sacred to many so please read with an open mind and not crucify me til the end....here goes
The amount of time i spent watching football is what i want to focus on because if you are good watching one game a week (your favorite team) then thats in moderation and acceptable ...but lets look at my past : 3 hours / Thursday, (leaving Friday out for balance), 10 hours / Saturday, 9 hours / Sunday, 3 hours / Monday.....totaling this is approx 25 hours...again to make this article apply to the masses lets round down to 20 hours per week for the average Fanatic.....I think immediately we can see the first problem ...this is a very non active lifestyle!
Not to mention most guys i know are putting down the beers during some of this time, need i say more.....
20 hours per week for lets say 15 weeks (trying to stay conservative) 300 hours per season roughly...this was my past and based on monday talk at work the next day listening to coworkers recite every bad call, one handed catch, brain smashing hits and cheerleading outfits oops i mean what the coaches did wrong ....well i wasn't alone....how many bike rides and hikes and kayak trips did i miss to watch other people exercise....Fall is my favorite time of year yet I was ok with letting it all go bye me, chips and salsa in hand!
Now, I don't know about you guys but I am not even sure how I could find that much time watching football now days but lets continue...How did I kick the habit like the browns punting AGAIN!....sorry maybe a little steelers fan still resides in me ......well, first off I wasn't happy about the hall of fame game getting cancelled because of millionaires fighting with billionaires over money.....sorry this is a personal pet pieve of mine ...while they were busy figuring out their contracts ...they had to of cost Canton, Ohio (stark county) some serious revenue...25 minutes fom my city...so This was the catalyst that started a new future...My personal boycott on football was well unhurting to the NFL but made me feel better about my perspective on life and money. I saw less than one quarter of football last year ...COLD TURKEY....guess what was the first thing I noticed? More time with the family an immediate reward....then I ditched cable and got a smart TV ...now I only watch netflix and amazon movies and hulu network but no football still....this amounted to me doing 15 events (and one to go) this year...from 5ks to 24 hour race (i mean 11hours and 4 minutes) another fantastic reward.
I really struggle with writinig this blog cause most people care more about their football than politics, diet, job, well in my neighborhood...ANYTHING.....bu
t to conclude if you have an addiction to football that may be increasing your inches around your waist, then maybe it's time to look for reducing the amount of time watching those snaps.....i thought i would miss it, i really did.....at poker night the guys are often talking about the games and well frankly don't miss it at all.....I just am so grateful for getting healthier, running awesome races, and spending all those Sundays with the family that it is all worth it.....
Final Tip : Moderation....enjoy some games but if you are neglecting areas of you life to watch East Detriot Community College V Harvard State at midnight cause it's the only game on well Put Down The Remote go to bed and go find a 5k tomorrow.....
Extra Final Tip : record the games skip commercials or do lunges and dumbbell curls while watching...or if its superbowl...record the commercials skip the game lol
