PAH!! Got the Captions to show on one of my videos!!

Friday, October 19, 2012

I've owned this exercise video - "Cardio Dance Blast!" By Crunch for awhile.... not exactly sure how long "a while" actually was. Months? Years? whatever. It was allegedly captioned, according to the CC symbol on the back cover. (How many of you knew what that CC meant? Cutie Cat? Cunning & Clever?).

Now, usually it's a "toggle it on" kind of deal on your TV (Monitor). Sometimes it's a default to toggle on or off within the DVD player itself, to play the captions regardless of what video is being played (assuming the video itself was encoded that way.). We have so many devices strung up through the one antique analog tv that it's like trying to get all the planets to line up correctly, maybe more like herding cats... with all the remote controls, with tiny buttons that I can't see with my blurry eyes, remote controls and devices stacked up on DS' computer desk clear at the opposite end of the TV, remote controls needing to be pointed carefully, straining to read the menu showing up on the screen, can't find reading glasses that will stay put and never walk away from the various devices, trying to read the tiny buttons on the remotes to make it go to where I want it to go on the screen, etc.

So after I got the tv captioning switched to analog caption, and the dvd switched to caption on, THEN the video captioning revealed itself! Voila!

Left me so tired, I could only do about half of the video itself...but I did work out 16 minutes. Woo hoo Mee!

That's great! One of my pet peeves is when there is no CC on a TV show or on a video. Sure wish Spark had CC on their exercise videos too. But, then, it could be me as sometimes I'll see the CC on the screen but when I click it nothing happens. Maybe there is a secret to it?? Have a great day. emoticon

I've never had an issue like that..I have lots of video's, but I sure do hate it when I have issues with them. My most emoticon moment is when I can't find the remote for the DVD player. Most of my workouts have premixes on them....and you can't get to the premixes or even start the video without the remote....Drives me CRAZY.....

Good for you! You are very persistent. I usually give up and wait for someone more skilled in button pushing to fix it for me! Now I know who to call when I can't figure it out. emoticon

emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon emoticon Hoorah for Julia! I did have my husband try to get CC on my exercise video (he does all the stacking of devices, toggling & pointing for our old analog set) but the Spark Video just isn't set up for CC. I even won an exercise video on a bonus spin -- very frustrating. emoticon for the information on video that is CC'd--I'm going to try both Amazon and Ebay to see if I can get a copy.
I did find out that the NTSC on the Spark video case means that it can be used on players in North America and Japan ~ for Europe & others it would say PAL (it's some kind of decoding chip in the player that recognizes the signal from the dvd itself). Hope all is going well with you and emoticon on this find!
