I'm trying out SparkCoach, and my assignment for today is to blog about the time wasters I have throughout the day.
I would have to say that FACEBOOK is the biggest time waster for me. It's all too easy for me to get lost among the interesting posts, or an article that someone linked to, or to get stuck playing one of the games, etc. etc. I find that on days that I actively avoid Facebook I get a LOT done!
Random flights of fancy on the internet are also big time wasters. It's just too easy to have a question pop into my head and then spend ungodly amounts of time finding the answer ... and then looking at a different, interesting aspect of it ... and then seeing something else that's interesting ... and on and on. So pretty much the internet in general, for all its benefits, is a detriment to my time.
I believe that I can control this by setting limits for myself. Since I'm in front of my work computer all day I like to use my Outlook Calendar reminders to schedule homework times, limit my internet usage, and basically keep myself on task. My phone is another good way to do that - setting alarms or scheduling alerts helps me keep track of my to-do list.
I will try putting some reminders in my calendar to limit my internet usage, and to avoid Facebook as much as possible throughout the day.
