Happy Friday

Friday, October 19, 2012

Today I'm planning to go do my volunteer work at the local animal shelter after work. It's something I look forward to every week. The place is FULL of dogs and cats right now. They are working hard to try to get them adopted because they just can't take any more in right now. I don't think I've ever seen it this crowded before. Many of the dogs are pit types and you know how some people feel about those types of breeds. Some of the ones that are at this shelter are the sweetest dogs I've ever met. It's a shame how monsters have changed their reputations from great family pets to killing machines. There is Lightening who just wants to play and play and play. He needs an older kid who has just as much energy to burn as he does and he also likes to play in water so a place with a pond would be Heaven. And Dutchess who is the sweetest girl around! She walks so nice on the leash and never jumps and barks at the kennel door when people walk around to look at the dogs. So..anyway...if anyone is planning to get a dog or cat, please check your local shelter(s) first. Breed rescues are another great source for great pets. Or volunteer...I get a great workout every week no matter what chores I do. Sometimes I do laundry (there is a lot of bending, lifting and arm movements doing their laundry), clean kennels, or walk dogs (a fantastic work out!). Try it some time. You might like it.

Have a great day!

Thank you for volunteering in animal rescue. Rescued critters are the BEST!

Yes, it's a no-kill shelter. Sometimes it's more difficult emotionally than anything else, but the dogs love to go out for their walks or just have someone give them some attention. I love to see them get adopted into good homes; people send in letters and pictures weeks later after adoption and it's great to see.

It is wonderful that you are volunteering at the animal shelter. I would think that would be a very hard job ~ so many innocent lives are lost to human negligence. Or are you working at a no-kill facility? Several of my dogs, and all of my cats have come from shelters - adopting a pet is the way to go.

The shame about Pits is it not the dog but the humans that train them! If only the politicians would understand this!

You do a tremendous service working at the shelter. Thanks for all of your hard work!
