Week 6: 10/17 - 10/23 - FOCUS on Fighting the Mid-Round Slump Sisters Getaway - Captiva Here I Come!

Counting down. In fact, I am leaving tomorrow tonight. My sweetie is in NYC and we will pass each other as he returns to take over at the helm of the house and I am headed off for my annual sisters getaway.

Years ago my brother was killed and my siblings and I hadn’t seen each other in far too long. We swore then it wouldn’t happen again and each year sometime during this month of our mutual births we go away together somewhere for a long weekend (this year a WEEK) and celebrate our journeys, commiserate our woes, kvetch and just love each other.

This year we have a house on Captiva Island Florida. Two of us fly into Orlando on Friday night and we will be “okole in seat” at the butt crack of dawn on Saturday morning so that we can head down to Sanibel/Captiva with the tide chart in hand for some serious SHELLING! Ever heard of the Sanibel Stoop or the Captiva Crouch?

We have spent the past months with a special Facebook group for our trip, sending messages of sunrises and sunsets on the island to each other, making lists, and generally passionately planning our week so it will actually be a much longer celebration having brought us together for the planning of where, when, how over the past many months joyously!

Sanibel & Captiva is a place of childhood magic to us and finding this house with a discount was just meant to be.

Captiva means miles and miles of biking, walking while shelling, sunrise and sunset yoga, kayaking in the Ding Darling Preserve and yes food and drink too. Can’t wait to enjoy MUCH Florida seafood and coffee on beach at sunrise.

LOVE the Island Cow - we all have t-shirts and this time we're getting sweatshirts and I have an Island Cow coffee mug to remind me of great times and memories made!

I wish I had my fitbit already so track my mileage but you know what? It’s vacation and I don’t really care for the details. I KNOW that I’ll be working it and THAT is what matters.

Last year when there for my first ever vacation ALONE, I discovered this wondering spot open only for breakfast and lunch up by the Sanibel lighthouse and I would get black beans and rice and they would last me for lunch AND dinner with a glass of wine after riding my bike 25 or more miles during the day (I was in training for Tour De Cure). I literally lived on those beans and rice for most of the week they were so very good. I don’t dine alone but I had a cabin with a tiny patio and I was truly in heaven. I would shell, and ride and kayak and I felt a bit like Hemingway.I didn’t turn the TV on once all week.

This time will be different with my sisters. We will shell and do many of the same things but we will dress and dine for dinner and cocktails in the evening because that is more to their liking.

I am making crab cakes “in” one night and on the last night in Orlando before we fly back to our homes we are cooking at my sister’s house there and I am making apple crisp in deference to our New England fall memories. By then we will have perhaps decided on our destination for next year and begun making lists.

In May, Kim and I are going to Hawaii (or so we are dreaming).

Strong ends - focus on movement, fun, clean, healthy foods and sunscreen! Feeding my body and my soul!

Mmmmm....can you smell it? hear it?

The smell of the ocean - the sound of the waves - being with my sisters all nourish me!

C you next week Spark Friends! Rejuvenated and ready to rock the second half of BLC 20! What amazing things will we accomplish?!*

Happy sister week, it is awesoem you have joined together to share your indiviual lives, one time a year wiht small distractions.

I have not gotten the captiva crouch but I love shelling. An awesomely relaxing way to spend a day. Nothing redreshes me more.

I KNOW you will have an awesome experience, your nature would not allow it otherwise! emoticon emoticon

That is so AWESOME!! My sisters and I did this for years and then our mom grew aged and I was her main caregiver but other 2 sisters helped when they could. Mom died last December and this April we got together at my sister's house in S. Carolina. We had such a wonderful weekend. We are planning our "sister get-away" for next year but not sure where we'll go. One sister has a house at Sea Island, GA and one in West Palm Beach, FL. So we could go to any of those! Have a great time as I know you will!

I ADORE 'shelling' and have never searched among the 400+ species of shells you are about to rediscover. ::gasps:: Oh, the sights to see at the refuge!! The pictures and bird watching... ::sighs:: Kvetching is fine- snookering isn't!! emoticon
