Soooo, after I left a comment on MARJIMAC63's page, she sagely advised that I keep my reasons for going to grad school somewhere slightly more tangible for future reference when I'm questioning my decision. As such, I've copied and pasted a little bit below so that I remember why I wanted to go to grad school in the first place. Thank you, Marji! =D
"I'm so glad you said that you love interacting with people and connecting them with the information they seek, because that's the main driving force behind my reason for becoming a librarian!!! I actually worked at Crown Books for a couple of years out of high school (before they filed for bankruptcy) and then at Barnes and Noble for a couple of years out of college. I loved loved loved working the information help desk, helping people find the books they were looking for and providing recommendations when asked. That may have been my favorite part of working in a bookstore. That and shelving, actually-but I think that part appealed to my inner neat freak.
Books have been the one constant passion in my life and after having worked places just for the money I was receiving, but not really loving what I was doing, I finally decided it was time to make a living doing something that I'm passionate about. I'd rather do that, and make a decent living, than take a job I dread going to every day just because it pays well. I've met very few people that actually are passionate about the work that they do, but it seems to me to make a world of difference. And I'll choose joy over money any day."
Now if only I'd get an email from SJSU with hard confirmation and not just "Congratulations on your provisional admission to SJSU School of Library and Information Science!"
Hurry up, transcripts!!!
