I heard about a teacher that gave all his students an 'A', right from the first day of class. The only requirement was that the students write a letter, in the first month, addressed to themselves as they would be at the end of the semester. They needed to describe the thoughts, actions, and feelings that went along with their 'A' rating. In the end of the sememester, the kids lived up to grade.
In line with that, I'm going to give myself an 'A' in weight loss this year. Here is my letter to myself by the end of the year.
Dear December Me,
Wow! What an awesome year. You are only ten pounds from goal! Doesn't that feel amazing? You must be proud of how resileint you were through out the year. You were really focused on what needed to be done. You analyzed how things were going all through out the year. When things didn't go per plan, you rallied! You kept what worked, and you brainstormed changes for things that needed improvement. You sought resources, when you needed them.
I'm especially proud of how you built on your experience and kept learning and applying your knowlege as the year went on. In October and November you pushed hard for those last five pounds of 2012. You maintained during your vacation in Decmember! You learned that you can listen to your body and eat anything. Most days, you eat according to the 'plate' method. Most of your nourishment comes from the earth--grains, fruits, and vegetables. Protein and dairy round out your meals. Sometimes, you do have a treat. It's a good treat. Made with quality ingredients. You only eat food that deserves you. Not all food is worthy of you. Most of the vending machine stuff is unworthy.
While you listen to your body's cues for what it needs, you also tracked, to double check your needs are met. It was exhilirating to see a daily deficit of 100-200 calories. That meant that on the weekends or special days, you could go beyond your range and still have a respectable average for the week.
could you guess, how much stronger and more energetic you would become? You are walking taller and sitting taller too.
I'm impressed by what your body can accomplish if your mind belives it.
Onward and upward. 2013, you will get to goal and focus on strenght, endurance, and other specific goals related to physical performance.
