You Can Now Connect Your Fitbit to SparkPeople!

Good morning, SparkPeople!

Today we are THRILLED to announce that we have partnered with Fitbit, a market leader in fitness devices. Fitbit has a full line of tracking devices to help you automatically and wirelessly track your distance, steps, calories burned and even fitness minutes. There are a lot of fitness tracking devices out there, but some products stand well above the others. Fitbit makes it easy for people to get fitter and reach their goals—and that is why we've partnered with them!

Sync Your Fitbit to Your SparkPeople Account
Many of our members who are Fitbit users have asked us how they can import all their data from Fitbit to SparkPeople. As of today, you can do exactly that—simply and wirelessly! If you have a Fitbit that you want to connect to SparkPeople, visit this page for instructions. This process takes just a couple minutes.

Purchasing a Fitbit Helps SparkPeople!
If you don't have a Fitbit, you can purchase one using this link and SparkPeople will earn a percentage of the sales. The newest tracker, Fitbit Zip, is now available at a lower price point of $59.95.

Join the SparkPeople Fitbit Challenge!
To celebrate our new partnership, SparkPeople has created a fun new challenge that is open to all members who have (or get) a Fitbit and then sync it to their accounts. You can compare your step totals with other members—and even SparkGuy's and Coach Nicole's on our Fitbit Challenge leaderboards page. In addition, starting in November, we're running monthly contests to encourage you to use your Fitbit to get fit! Everyone who accumulates at least 60,000 steps per month (that's just 2,000 steps per day on average) will be entered to win a $50 amazon.com gift certificate. See contest terms. To enter, all you have to do is sync your Fitbit to your SparkPeople account using the instructions above.

We hope this will help not only members who already have Fitbits, but that this new partnership and challenge will "Spark" even more members to check out the great Fitbit devices that we love so much. We hope you enjoy this new functionality!

I just learned something new as I have not heard of 'Fitbit'. Before my mobility became restricted b/c of health issues & when I was still working I wore a pedometer at work & was amazed at the amount of steps I took in a day, especially a busy one. I worked as a RN in a Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU) & even though I was basically was in one room I was up on my feet & moving. I'll have to check & see & maybe they will have a product that doesn't require a lot of walking &/or give me some ideas to get some type of exercise that I can track. Thank-you for the post.

Does it import SP data INTO fitbit? or only the other way around? I HATE FB's food trackers, I would rather just track in spark and have it appear in FB but its looking like its not doing that.

Okay I finally see "the big announcement" from Spark Guy -
http://www.sparkpeople.com/myp
age_public_journal_individual.a
sp?blog_id=5100045

And we get 500 points (one time!) for connecting to FitBit.

I'd already done the connection earlier today, as did many of you. On Sparkguy's page, I just followed the link as if I was going to do it again. I had to log back into my SparkPeople account. Clicked on everything like I did earlier today, and doublechecked that I had my subscription set to yes, and I also clicked on the "challenge" (although that's a laugh, because already FitBit tells me I've been sitting on my arse some 9 hours + today, "sedentary" so that's a bit blunt. But true!!

Soooo - I have done all these steps, but .... when I do it again, and then refresh/recycle my SparkPoints page, it still says "connect" on the listing for the 500 points - usually those one-time-only deals will state "awarded mm/dd/yy" etc, and it's clear that the points have been awarded.

Not sure what's happening with that, unless the system for awarding FitBit points is overloaded? Or it's only awarding the 500 points for those who actually buy the FitBit Zip and not us suckers who bought earlier versions (Ultra etc.)? Yet....FitBit page is still allowing the connections to come through on SparkPeople and vice-versa.

Hmmm WHAT'D I DO WRONG??

And SparkPeople shows me as having some FitBit exercise minutes and points awarded for those minutes/calories burned. Hmmm

Puzzled....
