You Can Now Connect Your Fitbit to SparkPeople!

Good morning, SparkPeople!

Today we are THRILLED to announce that we have partnered with Fitbit, a market leader in fitness devices. Fitbit has a full line of tracking devices to help you automatically and wirelessly track your distance, steps, calories burned and even fitness minutes. There are a lot of fitness tracking devices out there, but some products stand well above the others. Fitbit makes it easy for people to get fitter and reach their goals—and that is why we've partnered with them!

Sync Your Fitbit to Your SparkPeople Account
Many of our members who are Fitbit users have asked us how they can import all their data from Fitbit to SparkPeople. As of today, you can do exactly that—simply and wirelessly! If you have a Fitbit that you want to connect to SparkPeople, visit this page for instructions. This process takes just a couple minutes.

Purchasing a Fitbit Helps SparkPeople!
If you don't have a Fitbit, you can purchase one using this link and SparkPeople will earn a percentage of the sales. The newest tracker, Fitbit Zip, is now available at a lower price point of $59.95.

Join the SparkPeople Fitbit Challenge!
To celebrate our new partnership, SparkPeople has created a fun new challenge that is open to all members who have (or get) a Fitbit and then sync it to their accounts. You can compare your step totals with other members—and even SparkGuy's and Coach Nicole's on our Fitbit Challenge leaderboards page. In addition, starting in November, we're running monthly contests to encourage you to use your Fitbit to get fit! Everyone who accumulates at least 60,000 steps per month (that's just 2,000 steps per day on average) will be entered to win a $50 amazon.com gift certificate. See contest terms. To enter, all you have to do is sync your Fitbit to your SparkPeople account using the instructions above.

We hope this will help not only members who already have Fitbits, but that this new partnership and challenge will "Spark" even more members to check out the great Fitbit devices that we love so much. We hope you enjoy this new functionality!

I linked my new fitbit flex to sparkpeople and synced data but neither food nor activity is reflected in sparkpeople, I see that at least one other user had this experience--please advise, I would like this functionality emoticon

I just got a Fitbit Zip and have connected it to SP. But the food list is not being conveyed from one to the other. I can't find any info on how to be sure I'm doing this correctly. I'm happy to read instructions if someone could point me in the right direction. Thanks!

Just set up my Fitbit, which I have had for over a week but unable to deal with it cause of an abscessed tooth. But today I am feeling better and got the FB set up and sync with SP. So now to learn about everything and hope it all syncs well.

WTH --- I had an ultra and the scale - things worked great. Then I upgraded to the 'one' and nothing syncs now. Upgrades are supposed to be improvements, not a separation from what you had............... SO DISAPPOINTED AND FRUSTRATED !!!

Any ideas? I get the following messae when I use the link in this post.

Has anyone else come across this? Any suggestions?

I made a new account to let you know that the "forgot password" thing is NOT working .... I had no choice but to make a new account to get in here ... my old account is http://www.sparkpeople.com/mypage.a
sp?id=TIGRESSLOVE#comments and I would like to have it back .... I waited two weeks and tried again and it still did not work, so it is not just a temporary error. I also had a lot of problems making a new account as the captcha thing kept having errors. I had to use the facebook thing to make the account, there was no other way to prove I was real. Then your email said no reply but I could message you here, but no way to message you that I can see so this is probably going to go unnoticed .... very frustrating!!!!!

I'm waiting for my Fitbit to be delivered. I am so tired of my current pedometer accidentally resetting and me not catching it for hours; heaven only knows how many times it has actually reset by the time I look. I'm really excited that it will let me attach it to my bra...instead of on my hip.

I have had a Fitbit for some time now and just connected my account. This was an awesome discovery for me. I went to the "Track Your Fitness" page and discovered that I have to sync each individual day??? Please say it isn't so! That's a lot of days to do individually. If anybody has discovered a way to sync all of their past history with SparkPeople, please please please let me know. Many thanks in advance!

This is awesome! I've had a Fitbit Ultra for some time and love the way it holds me accountable for steps, activity, proper sleep, stairs climbed, etc! When we are mindful, we tend to pay attention more in all areas and it just builds a healthier life for us, our family, friends and more! Thanks for adding Fitbit!!

I'd like to address a comment from EmmaNYC regarding Fitbit's customer service (saying a review said they have poor customer service). That has NOT been the experience of my friends! One friend LOST her fitbit and the company not only sent her a new one, the one they sent (free of charge) was the Fitbit Ultra (her's was an older model.) She ASKED because another friends (here on SP) suggested it - because she herself had an issue that they quickly resolved.

One more thing - I just now discovered that not only is my data from Fitbit coming into SP, my SP FOOD data is going into my Fitbit dashboard!! This is awesome!! I LOVE my Fitbit and I love that Sparkpeople listens to their members!!

This is just one more tool for weight loss success that SparkPeople is giving us - what an amazing site!!

I would be interested to know what kind of due diligence Spark staff carried out before deciding to endorse this product. Yes, there are a lot of people who have it and would love to be able to sync it with Sparkpeople. But does that mean Spark has to encourage people to use it? I note that Spark (the company) gains financially from the sale of this product (and to be fair, they admit it although they call this "helping Sparkpeople" - gee, kind of the same way I "help" the insurance salesman when I buy insurance?)

I did a little reading, and one thing I noticed almost immediately was the number of negative reviews on Amazon. Lots and lots of reviews from people who said that customer support was non-existent.

But what concerned me the most was a 1* review from a fitness professional who said that s/he programmed it to provide for a 3 kg loss per week, the fitbit recommended that s/he eat only 500 calories per day. Since this kind of "advice" is dangerous, the person contacted the maker of fitbit and asked if this glitch would be corrected so that the recommended daily calorie intake would never drop below the daily minimum (e.g., 1200 calories). They said no, such a change wasn't planned for the next release.

By the way, I found that review within a few minutes of starting to read reviews on Amazon, after sorting the reviews from worst to highest and starting to read the 1* reviews. That's something I do all the time when I'm thinking of buying a product. I make sure I read a range of reviews from high to low. It just seems like an obvious step to take to make sure what I'm thinking of buying is worth it. I don't believe every review I read, but if there is something in the reviews that raises a red flag, I make sure I do more research.

I don't know if the fitbit still can be set up so that it would make such a recommendation (the review I read dates back to about 2011, I think, so it's possible that the system has been changed), but it seems like the kind of thing that Spark staff should check out before recommending a product where they're going to benefit from sales. Maybe they did. I for one would like to know
