Horses and Vegetables

Random entry title huh? Eventually I will get there.

Starting with Horses. It has been 1 year since I made the decision to put my Bella down. It has been 1 year since I stepped into a stable or touched a horse; it has been a tough year. I needed time to heal, to not feel guilty to take care of my family. I wrote a few weeks ago that I was going to be volunteering at a local therapeutic stable. Saturday was my training, it was also 1 year since putting my lovely mare down. It was a lovely day. I worked with horses and people and received training using research I helped with in college. I met amazing people and am now connected with a new community. After the training I sent them a message as I had to change my available time and that has started a wonderful exchange with the women who run the program. They have asked me to do a "new" position, which is kind of a "pinch hitting" position, since I have experience in both therapeutic and non-therapeutic horsemanship. It is wonderful feeling to know I will be helping and that my previous experience will help others.

In other non-horse related news I am officially down 16lbs and have lost inches.
I have lost:
4 inches in my hops
2.5 inches in my thigh
2.5 inches in my waist
1 inch in my arm!

YEAH emoticon

I am SO close to my first "big" reward which is a new pair of Nice shoes (not from walmart, target or payless).

So the end of my blog is about VEGETABLES and how many different ones I roasted this weekend. Rutabaga's, parsnips, Turnips and beets. Carrots and green beans, zucchini and a very weird sweet potato and butternut squash. They are all roasted and ready for the week and I am eating them with every meal, well not breakfast unless they are in egg whites.

I hope you enjoy your vegetables!

Congratulations on your re-entry into the world of horsemanship and volunteering at a job that suits your skills! It's pretty admirable about all those vegetables, too! Happy eating!

I have put down 2 horses in my life, in both cases I was lucky to have another horse at the time or was close to getting another. It seems that the new horses were there to heal me. My current horse was almost 1 yr old when I put down my last horse. It is a horrible experience, but moving forward is so important.

Last year, I sent my current horse to a trainer (he was 2) and during the training, he tripped and broke his knee. Luckily it was a recoverable injury and he is fine now - but it was a very long recovery. He was started over the summer and this is the first autumn that I've been riding in 4 years!

Good for you that your are back with the horses again - they are a wonderful stress reliever - just the smell of the barn can put me at ease.
