I watched Food Inc a couple of weeks ago. Someone then recommended I watch Fork Over Knives. I cut out meat 8 days ago, and dairy 2 days ago. I am finding this surprisingly easy. I wasn't sure I could cut out cheese, but I now find myself craving vegan Mediterranean & Middle Eastern foods. I also eat more raw veggies & homemade whole foods meals mostly & I feel fantastic. Getting some detox symptoms, but it is tolerable. I already notice the difference in my skin & the way I feel lighter. Unlike the Engine 2 Engine diet, I will still have some olive oil, coconut oil, sesame oil/tahini in moderation. I keep track of my calories, and I am staying in range.
My personal decision to go vegan is for health & holistic reasons. I gained back 10 lbs after the contest at work. My size 8's were getting tight & I was tired all of the time. My cholesterol in the spring was at a point my doctor considered putting me on meds (what I just turned 40!). She agreed to give me 6 mos to change my eating & physical activity. I want to feel better and cleanse my "temple." My husband & kids still eat meat and that is okay. My husband is incorporating more vegan meals too. This like I said is a personal decision. I look forward to seeing my lab results after a couple of months.
