Resentment - arrgh

I can't seem to jump over my own shadow - somebody please snap me out of it!

Sad day at work today - we were "offered" a 10% payCUT, in form of cutting 4 working hours a week, or we would have to let one person go. We decided to take one for the team and agreed to the 10% cut.

It will hurt financially (I'm a single earner) and while I took it with a smile I really want to SCREAM!!!

Please don't give me any "at least you're working", okay?
I know it was the right thing to do, yet I'm angry and feel let down.

Well, let's concentrate on the joy of having 2 full days off each month, and gas saved not having to commute.

    Oh, man -- I am so sorry about that. I will refrain from going into "professional mode" (I'm a resume writer and career consultant), but will give my support virtually. I hope that turn of events does provide insight into possible directions you can take on your career path.

    Of course, I only know what I know here (translation, very little), but this sounds of a company that is not doing well. Couple that with the impression that I have that you merely put up with your job (it's not doing something you LOVE or working at a company that is special), why don't you look for something else? Is this company/job so great/special/unique that you couldn't find a comparable position somewhere else? Or better yet, go to school/get training/self teach yourself a skill set that would allow you to obtain a job doing something you love?

In other words, could this situation be a springboard for something better?

    Yup, it sucks. Yup, it was the ethically and morally right thing to do. But it still hurts your paycheck, and your life for the foreseeable future.

So scream, punch pillows, do an intense workout, and get those feelings out.

(And we had a system-wide 8% cut last year, so I truly know how you feel.)

good attitude about concentrating about not driving - saving gas & time to do things on those two days.

    Getting wages cut even to save one persons job---you can scream, it is allowed, even tho it is the right thing to do. Maybe you will have a little time to do something during those hours to enjoy a little needed relaxing with a good book or take another hike closer to home.
