What's the single most important thing we can learn at SparkPeople?

How to maintain.

Yeah. Because all of us already know how to lose weight. We've done it lots of times before.

So if this is going to be the last time: we have to figure out how to maintain weight loss.

When should we start learning how to maintain? From day one.

And where can we learn most about maintaining? Join the At Goal and Maintaining: Transition to Maintenance Team. Sure we can. Even before we lose the weight. So we're planning for maintaining right from the beginning.

MAINtenance: maintaining weight loss is the MAIN thing.

    That's what I am doing learning how to maintain this lifestyle change. It appears that I am a slow learner... but I am making progress and still have a lot to lose. But once I get to the weight my body was meant to be... maintaining will be a lifestyle habit. Thanks to you for sharing your journey, you have inspired me to keep moving forward... and that maintaining is what is key.

    I agree. I have not met my initial goal weight, but I have been feeling lately my body is telling me to start the maintaining part of this journey. Maybe that is what plateaus are really all about. I know SP members talk about a "weight range" they try to stay in once they reach their goal weight.

    Absolutely! You can maintain your way to a healthy weight, but you can't lose your way to maintaining... at some point we have to stop at a "healthy lifestyle"! Nicely stated, and totally agree this is the MAIN thing! emoticon emoticon

    Love it! I found SP right at the end of my weight loss efforts. While I wish I would have discovered this site much sooner, I am so happy to have SP and especially AG&M, TM (ok, the name could use some work LOL) to help with maintenance. I feel like I have such better understanding of what I need to do this time.

    I think this makes so much sense but it is counter to the way most of us are taught to think about weight loss! The media tells us weight "melts" off and then you are done! Most commercial diet programs tell us that we should lose ALL the excess weight and then start a maintenance program.

I think it is a real paradigm shift to think about maintenance from day one. But even though I haven't lost all the weight I need to, I've "maintained" my nearly 30-pound weight loss for five months, and that's worth a lot.

I promise I'm going to join that team TODAY!
