Does Anyone Know What IS Going On

Friday, October 12, 2012

It is a shame when I am telling the Doctor what is going on!!!

Still trying to set up the procedure that needs to be done to find out what the blockage of the pancreas is.

The Doctor's office called yesterday to say the Ins would not pay for the procedure until a scan with the IV dye contrast was done. I wanted to scream-- they did not and can not do that scan because the left kidney is not functioning properly and will not flush the dye. Do the doctors not read their own charts and not know what has and has not been done and why.

Now they are asking for a test that to be done Tues and I am 90% sure it has already been done-- have to check my records and see whether or not I am right and call the doctor back.

Now if I was not in the medical field I would not know what to ask or would not know enough to keep an eye on things. I wonder how anyone that does not know the medical field even begin to get through the system????? No wonder they come home aggravated, confused, frustrated and very sick. In home health we have to sort it all out and call the doctors to clarify.

So at the time he is home with the same thing wrong with him as when he went to the hospital. Getting sicker by the day. May be another trip to the ER before the weekend is over.

I just shake my head and take a deep breath.

OMG, all I can say is I thank my lucky stars that I'm a nurse and can advocate for myself as well! Lord there are soooooo many times when I have had to outright say "You're wrong." FINALLY someone will listen. **SIGH** I feel for you and hope things work out. Don't know what else to say. Keep fighting the fight. So sorry to hear you're dealing with your own issues in addition to your husband's.

OMG! THIS SOUNDS SO FAMILIAR. I AM NOT IN THE MEDICAL FIELD BUT ANYONE THAT HAS MULTIPLE MEDICAL IISUES THAT DOESN'T INFORM THEMSELVES ON THEIR OWN CONDITION, IS AN IDIOT. I HAVE MY OWN PDR AND HAVE A NIECE THAT IS A DR. AT THE MAYO CLINIC. I ALWAYS DOUBLE CHECK BEFORE ANY RECOMMENDED PROCEDURE. IN 2006, I WAS ON 28 DIFFERENT PRESCRIPTIONS AND IN A WHEELCHAIR FULL TIME.(WHICH THEY TOLD ME WAS PERMANENT) I FELT REALLY LOUSY AND DOPED UP ALL THE TIME. SO I WENT TO MY OLD FAMILY PRACTICE DR. AND ASKED HIM WHICH OF THE MEDS I NEEDED TO STAY ALIVE AND HE PICKED 9 OF THEM. I ASKED EACH OF THE SPECIALIST TO TAKE ME OFF THE OTHERS WITH THEIR SUPERVISION. THEY REFUSED. SO I BEGAN TO DO IT MYSELF - ONE AT A TIME AND VERY SLOWLY. MY HEAD BEGAN TO CLEAR AND I COULD FOCUS AGAIN. IT TOOK ME WELL OVER A YEAR AND THEN I JUST GOT SICK OF THAT STUPID CHAIR AND GOT OUT OF IT AND WALKED ACROSS THE HALL TO THE BATHROOM. SINCE I HAD TO DRAG MY LEGS BEHIND ME AND USE A WALKER, THIS ALONE CAUSED A MAJOR SWEAT AND I NEEDED A NAP AFTERWARDS, BUT I DID IT. AND EACH DAY I DID A LITTLE MORE. NOW, I AM DOWN TO 10 MEDS (ONE NEW AND TEMPORARY) AND THE CHAIR IS IN STORAGE AND I WALK AS CLOSE TO 2,000 STEPS A DAY AS I CAN. THREE OF THE SPECIALISTS WILL NO LONGER SEE ME AND I HAVE REFUSED MOST OF THEIR INVASIVE TESTS - FOR THE SAME REASONS AS YOU - KIDNEY IMPAIRMENT. THAT IS YOUR RIGHT AS A PATIENT BUT THEY REALLY, REALLY DON'T LIKE IT AND MAY REFUSE THE PROCEDURE. OFFER TO SIGN A WAIVER OF RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE PRE-TESTS AND THAT WILL ABSOLVE THEM OF RESPONSIBILITY AND THE PROCEDURE SHOULD BE ABLE TO GO FORWARD. IT WORKED FOR ME.

I am always cross checking any type of medical care that I get because this is MY body and I care very much about MY body.

I am so glad that you are doing all that you are with this sorry individual who must be suffering greatly.

You have to be a huge comfort to him whether or not he wants to give you any credit or thanks for all that you are doing. emoticon

It is good that you can be your own medical advocate. I too am I the medical field and feel that the docs don't read their own chart notes. Most are over booked and I fear it will only get worse. Keep fighting for your rights with the doc and the insurance company. Good luck !

I feel so sorry for all of the red tape you are going through and for an ex too! Hang in there and I wish you luck. I hope you don't end up sick after all of this. emoticon
