Updates...

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

I just got word that our negotiations have succeeded in obtaining a fair and equitable contract for our union. Although the agreement is tentative, it is a real step in the right direction and I have every reason to believe that it will end well. A month+ ago, tensions were very high and we were very close to a strike. Come to find out, it wasn't just a lot of bluster. I found out later that the company gave the order the order to begin a property wide shutdown due to negotiation failure.

There were security guards and temp workers (affectionately known as scabs) already in place. This was a very scary situation and one I hope not to have to go through again for a while. Things were getting pretty serious.

It looks like all will end well.

Also...

I have finally lost weight!!!

I almost had to do a double take on the scale because I couldn't believe it. I couldn't believe it because it had been so long since I had lost anything that I had pretty much lost faith that I could actually continue on my journey. You heard me right...lost faith.

What I am doing is working...finally. I'll give more details later, I want to just be sure that this just isn't a fluke but there is an actual pattern of practice then of loss. I have been stuck for so long that I have forgotten how good it feels to finally see something happen and worse yet, to workout and eat with an EXPECTATION of seeing results.... The expectation just has not been there.

Anyway, more to come later on... Too tired to write with any real clarity.

Thanks everyone for the support and encouragement that you have given.

Yay on the negotiations looking good and work life getting back to normal! Yay on the weight loss!

PS - It's not a fluke. You are finding what you need right now to keep the torch burning. Our bodies are made to adapt. So if we stay the same, so do they. Great work!

Glad things are heading in the right direction, at work and on the scale. Keep it up!! That is so awesome to see movement on the scale after a period of plateau. Just remember, never give up! Keep your eye on the goal, and you will get there, no matter how long it takes!

Wow, what a relief it is when negotiations go well! That will certainly bring your stress level down. It's fantastic that you're losing weight again. Hopefully, it is a pattern. No matter how hard I work and how consistent I am, every time I weigh myself I'm surprised. Do I not trust myself or do I set my expectations really low so I won't be disappointed? Oh, we of little faith! (Sorry, I just couldn't help myself.)

SO Happy emoticon emoticon for you Robert! Both for the job situation and the movement on the scale. Do you think it was from the relief from stress that the scale finally moved? (secretly hoping not - as, there would be little hope for me then). When you do discover the"secret", please fill us in. The scale has been stuck for me for some time now, though not as long as for you, so I can empathize with the feeling and just have to be glad that the sale and the measurements are not going up.

Whew! What a relief that is. In this day of uncertainty that is an awesome outcome. You are losing and coincidence or what I seem finally to be headed that way myself. I weigh in tomorrow and then will fix my tracker. Along with eating well I am feeling upbeat so I think it goes without saying that eating poorly sets one on the road to depression. We have been doing our roof and that is a 70 yr. old husband (with lots of health problems) and his loyal 65 yr. old wife and sidekick. Today we saw the first flakes of white #$%& and I had to go on that slippery tin roof and continue putting screws in. Normally that would have put me into a crazed state but it did not throw me at all. That is how good losing a few lbs. feels!!!!!

And big, big congrats on the loss!! Being I'm rather :stuck" myself, it heartens me to see that if you persevere things DO happen! emoticon emoticon
