Searching for moderation

I walk everyday at lunch time, I thought I would try to maximize this time so I baught a 20 pound weight belt, and some 10 pound ankle weights to wear during the walk. I found myself worn out, and not looking forward to my walks anymore. I think maybe the extra weights was a bad idea. So I started walking with only 5 pound dumbbells in my hands and exercise my arms while I walk. I think it is more important to enjoy the walk than intensify it too much. Do you agree? Also, I was very strict on my diet for 4 weeks, then on this weekend I ate some candy, cake, chips, and drank a whole bottle of wine. I have never done that before. I needed a day without all that structure. I'm not sure how to feel ahout this.

    I think being intense about your program is necessary to stay on it, but it can get a little old hence the overindulgence day. I have gotten tired of daily dieting and have had a pigout day or 2 too. I blame my current plateau on losing focus. I think you SHOULD enjoy your walking or you will stop doing it. I just saw a Rachel Ray episode about a belly-melting diet. The author says you should do weight training in the evening around 6 NOT at the same time you are getting cardio which she recommends doing before breakfast. I've thought about getting a weighted vest for walking with, but I haven't gotten myself to develop the walking habit so I'm not buying new fitness supplies until I do. Now that I've seen that program, I wonder if a weighted vest is really a good idea.
