Need to get this all out!

Wednesday, October 10, 2012

I honestly have never reached out for an "online" support forum before. I'm a bit nervous about the whole experience, but I find I don't have a lot of great females around me that want to venture on the same path. Most of the ladies I know are pretty content with their expanding or remaining waistlines and likely want mine to stay the same. I personally feel like I've spent the last few weeks thinking over whether or not I really want to lose these extra pounds as I could never be the type of person who didn't like herself at any weight.

I'm not even sure if it's truly the pounds and love handles I would like to remove or if it is more the weight off of my mind. I truly feel that if I adopt some healthier choices into my day that I will feel better all around (or at least thats what the experts tell you).

I don't want to be a super model, but I do want to be comfortable in a 2 piece again. I want to eat in a good calorie range each day, and ensure that I am at the gym each day. I also want to keep myself focused which may likely be the hardest part for me. My biggest fault is my ability to eat on impulse. I've got a lot to work on, I know. I think finding a balance will be the toughest part.

I'd sincerly like to know the following if you have time to respond

-what are some of the simple diet things you have done to stay on target for your daily caloric intake? Tips? Strategies? Eating patterns, etc?

- Do you really need to adopt a resistance training program? How much do you really need to do?

-Would it be better to simply focus on cardio for now (say first 6 weeks)?

Thanks for reading... if anyone really is.

    Hi,
what are some of the simple diet things you have done to stay on target for your daily caloric intake? Tips? Strategies? Eating patterns, etc?
I put my what I am going to eat in the tracker beforehand...not every single time but especially if I am planning on eating out or away from home. If I do that it gives me the control to tinker with it if it looks like I'll go over and I am never surprised if I CHOOSE to go over.
Carry water with you..everywhere
I don't buy junk to bring into my house, that way it's not a temptation. If I really want something that bad, i'll have to either make it myself which is healthier anyway, or i'll have to go out and buy it.
I eat on salad plates and I eat very healthy, keep fruit in your home all the time for snacking.

Do you really need to adopt a resistance training program? How much do you really need to do? -Would it be better to simply focus on cardio for now (say first 6 weeks)?

Strength training is essential for everyone..particularly women, it's going to keep us upright as we get old :) I like THE FIRM workouts, they incorporate strength training and cardio...when I first started my weight loss journey I used them all the time..I got my 1st ones from the library.

Lastly I would say to recognize this as a new lifestyle..make changes that you can keep for a lifetime, plan your workouts if you are not consistant...act like it's a job...be dedicated and committed and you can reach your goals:)

Hope some of that is helpful

Hello... my name is Cici and I am glad that you are with SparkPeople. It is truly a great source for a more healthy lifestyle. I really enjoy that I hold myself accountable for my nutrition and exercise logs. Afterall, I am doing this for me and no one else.
However, I do understand your points.

I find that if I write down my exercise schedule ahead of time then I know exactly what I need to do for the week... then everything will have to revolve around my schedule. I am only doing cardio and 5lbs weights right now since I have a treadmill in my home.

I think that everyone is different but as long as you change your habits to healthy ones, then you're simply on the right track for you being a better you.
Good Luck and take care,
~Cici
