Day 72

Tuesday, October 09, 2012

Today has been a strange day. I was out doing my morning bike ride when a neighbor stopped me asking if I had my cell phone. Another neighbor, aged 84 and suffering from early stage dementia had fallen while out walking his dog. Long story short, neighbor was taken off my the paramedics to the hospital and I ended up bringing his dog home with me. The dog is doing well and is very easy to care for BUT I am leaving town Thursday morning and I have no idea exactly when and who is going to be taking and caring for the dog--neighbor, neighbor's girlfriend, neighbor's daughter--plus I have no names or phone numbers. Fortunately a friend of mine in our community has a heart for dogs and when I talked with her, she as agreed to take him tomorrow if things are still unknown. So although I would prefer knowing what is going to happen, at least the worst case scenario is that the dog will be well cared for until I return and if I need to take him back into my home, it will be OK.

If you pray, please pray for my neighbor Al and his dog.

I saw Al out walking his dog yesterday and he is looking good. I heard that his children are involved in planning for his future and have arranged for someone to visit him daily to check on him. They agree he will need to go somewhere where he will have more assistance soon but are going day by day and allowing him to stay here as long as possible as that is his wish.

That was sweet of you to take care of the dog. I am glad that Al is being cared for. You are a good neighbor.

Dog is now with Al's next door neighbor and both girlfriend and daughters and in route to care for Al and dog. So all is well and he really was easy to have here. Thanks for the prayers.
