I was registered to run in a 5K in Cortland on Saturday, but I was asked to join a "5K fun run" by someone who's cause I have an affinity for (childhood obesity education). I couldn't be in two places at once so I skipped the chip timed certified race in favor of the less formal one. It was 55 degrees and raining during the race and I was shocked to finish in under 23 minutes, but then I found out that the 5K was actually 2.9 miles. I think if I'd run a full 5K at that pace I would have been very happy with my time.
Most of the runners finished and headed out, but a few wet die-hards hung around to socialize.
Today, I planned to get in an early long run but wound up going for a hike with Judith in the A.M. and running five miles just before dinner. I am trying to migrate from "Chi Running" to the POSE technique. I'm not sure what the result will be. I'm getting my education from YouTube and that is not ideal.
I have back to back 10K races on Saturday and Sunday so my schedule for the rest of this week is an eight mile hike and a slowish ten mile run tomorrow where I'll concentrate on mechanics, rest and a flu shot Wednesday, a high effort 5K training run Thursday to see if I'm learning anything, and a two mile jog on Friday just to stay limber.
Next long-winded entry should be a week and a bottle of Naproxen from now.
