Hello dehydration, now go away!

Monday, October 08, 2012

Today I was at the gym and feeling unusually sore after weight training. I blamed it on a weekend of bad sleep thanks to long bartending shifts and an anxiety/depression flare up and decided I was going to fight through it. 7 minutes and 30 seconds into my bike intervals I was so shaky that I could barely keep myself upright so intervals ended abruptly. As I lay on the stretching mat hoping I wouldn't pass out I tried to analyze what the heck was going on. I had slept the night before. I had eaten a good homecooked dinner with protein and complex carbs less than 2 hours ago. I've been boxing for months which is far more intense than my free weight days...what gives? Then I realized. My coffee to water ratio was at least 2:1 for the day instead of the other way around, and despite pouring people drinks all weekend I didn't have a place to hide my water bottle and therefore didn't use it. Bah! I've had a good 60oz of water since I got home which will hopefully set everything right before boxing tomorrow. It's so frustrating to have your easy days strike you down because of a stupid mistake.

I hate it when that happens! I've been there twice and it can feel so defeating. At least you realized what it was so you can lay off the coffee pre-workouts.

You just gave me a clue of what could have been the reason for my fatigue the last days!
Thank you! Let's make sure we drink that water and keep dehydration away!
