ME?!? 18th out of 67?!?

Monday, October 08, 2012

Hi, everyone. Yes, I'm still here!!! I've been struggling with some issues for the past couple of months. I really started running again... and loving it. But, I started having tingling and numbness in one foot. I tried new shoes. I went to a podiatrist and got a shot of cortizone and a shoe insert. Then my back started hurting really bad. I got an MRI. And was diagnosed with a bulging disk. The good news? I get to start PT again! I loved my PT last fall... it helped SO much! (I've had chronic back pain for over 10 years).

Well, my sister-in-law asked me about 10 days ago to race a 5K with her this past Saturday. I signed up... and we ran!

It was in Tulsa, and it was COLD!!! The temp was in the 30's and a light rain started at about the 2nd mile. It rained most of the rest of the race. AND... it started lightly sleeting, too! I kept telling myself the cold would make me FASTER!!!

I had done a practice race (on the treadmill to save my foot) on Wed, and my time was almost 36 mins. I really thought that was the fastest I could run right now, but... with the cold? Hmmm...

Well, I WAS able to run faster! I dug deep... and got a 33:48!!! I was THRILLED! (And, I got a really NEAT medal! Love that bling! And, I'll post photos later.)

But, the big shocker came later that night when my sister-in-law looked at the results online. She'd beaten me, but we weren't sure by how much. She said she'd come in 16th in our age group. 16th?!? WOW!! So, what about me? 18th!!!!! I could NOT believe it!!! I'd come in at the top third of our age group! I'm usually at the back... way back! I've come in at the bottom 10% several times. WOW!!! I was so excited! (And, overall, I came in at the top 1/3rd, also! 135/575!)

I'm really still so excited. I have a 10 mile race this coming Saturday. It was just going to be a training run, so I'm trying not to put pressure on myself. My foot did start hurting after the Saturday race, but it feels fine now. So, we'll see. But, right now, I'm dreaming of next year. Our goal? Top 10 finishers in our age group! emoticon

Sounds like a great way to bolster your enthusiasm! I actually got 2nd in a virtual 5K my friend held (Pretty sure there were only 3 participants though) and it totally went straight to my head! LOL

I want to see your medal!
