Relishing the Team Challenges while Getting Back on Track! (a photo journal)

We have uniquely different journeys while taking control of our health. Lately, I canít seem to shake this tendency to hold deep a mentality where I live to eat (vs eat to live). Will I ever break myself of this mentality? This makes my relationship with food on the cusp of an abusive one.

On April 21, 2011, I celebrated the entry into the range of a healthy BMI. WooHoo! On July 16, 2011, I celebrated reaching my goal weight having lost 100 lbs with a 23.1 BMI.

Even when I overeat, I tend to splurge more within the realm of the healthier foods. More recently, however, Iíve noticed the addition of my making less healthy choices with both greater frequency and quantity. Ouch! For the first time in nearly 18 months, I exceeded a healthy BMI (25.25), albeit, for only a few days!.

I canít tell you how relieved I am to be back on track and already enjoying a 24.53 BMI. I praise God for a strong faith and for you and my many Spark friends! I am also grateful for the friendly competition within my current SparkTeam challenges (Fall 5% Challenge, Teddy Bear Team, and the Jingle Bell Challenge) and the incredible impact of being in the Spotlight has when oneís team mates overwhelm me with such inspiring words of wisdom on my SparkPage! There is such power in the written word and in sharing one heart!

Peeled over 60 eggs and roasted about 8 lbs of garden-fresh red potatoes for this curry dish shared for an International Night of Christian Fellowship. The top I'm wearing is a gift from the Mother of the Sri Lankan student photographed next to me. I am so blessed by my international connections!

    I just REVELED in your beautiful pictures and each time I see your beaming smile...I smile back! emoticon At the computer screen no less!

Perhaps if you eat smaller portions closer together it will keep your metabolism stoked and not so looking forward to the next big meal. I find that when I am under nourished from too long of a period between eating I always eat larger portions than I really should.

I tell myself I can have this big helping because I haven't eaten lunch...it really doesn't cut it. Also too...you have to be a real super sleuth about processed foods. I swear they sneak in some chemical or additive that MAKES your body crave MORE!

I immediately lost about 10 pounds once I dumped diet Coke and ALL sodas from my eating menu. They are chemical DEATH! That is one promise I have kept for almost 3 years now...NO soda EVER shall pass my lips again! You start with one..and there you go again.

Here's what has been giving me a pound or two weight loss per week. I've only started this regimen but so far so good!

Swings in my blood sugar is what my problem was sooo I've been doing this to avoid them.

Sugar and artificial sweeteners...GONE

I've been combining good sources of protein(fish, organic eggs, lean poultry, nuts, legumes) with small amounts of good fats EVOO, unrefined coconut oil, olives, nuts (no peanuts), seeds, avocados)and good carbs (beans, veggies (mostly green)whole grains, and sometimes a little fruit..but you have to be careful even fruit can trigger
me to go full out carb binge.

I'm really careful to avoid liquid calories, they drive my appetite.

I have a protein breakfast and love my protein shakes...quick easy DONE! I posted a yummy shake recipe a few days back.

I try my best to eat something protein every 3-4 hours..this keeps me satisfied and I don't get over hungry and then eat WAY too big of a portion.

I try to stop eating anything around 7 p.m.

I'm always stressed and stress triggers our appetite so I try deep breathing, meditation which I'm HORRIBLE at but keep trying, or some simple yoga.

Lots of time you can have food allergies to the VERY things that you love the most. Try avoiding gluten and dairy for a few days and see if it stops cravings.

I'm moving more and it's GREAT! I try REALLY hard for about 15,000 steps per day and of course I take that loonnnnng staircase at work many times a day helping customers. I know you are GREAT on exercise!

I need at LEAST 8 hours of sleep at night..otherwise I'm cranky and looking for food comforts.

I'm really concentrating on my omega 3 fats (I add 2 T of ground flaxseed to my shakes..helps immensely) Low Vit D levels can trigger appetite so make sure you are getting max levels daily. Cravings control can also be helped by L-glutamine, chromium, alpha lipoid acid, dl-phenylalaine, N-actyl-cystein and my MOST favorite super fiber PGX.

I've been forgoing my coveted glass of red wine with my evening meal for a while...more liquid calories GONE. But..you can bet your bippy once I get back to a weight I'm comfortable with...I'll work those 100 calories back in! emoticon

I love your most recent comment, so I am challenging my self to 20-30 servings of freggies today. I find that as I am being led to health, it is those small things that allow us to heal. I know at one time, I could eat my servings share in processed foods as well as candy - so I can do all things positive, glorifying to God who strengthens me, heals me , keeps me from danger as He watches over me

    You look wonderful and best of all HAPPY!! I think that we have to resolve to use tracking and/or journalising, always. It's so easy to gradually slip back to old eating patterns in a world where everything is available and there are so many choices.
