I adopted Betty White!

Monday, October 08, 2012

Did I piqué your curiosity? Okay, I'll admit I didn't adopt Betty White the 90 year old actress. I adopted Betty White the 9 year old Maltese. She's a tiny little girl. Cute as can be and twice as friendly. She needed some teeth pulled which the shelter took care of. Her eyes are a little cloudy from age and she has mild patella luxation (doctor talk for trick knees).
I saw her picture on the Sacramento SPCA website a couple days ago. The instant I saw her face it was omg! Then I saw her name, Betty White! Omg! I adore Betty White! The clincher was her age. I love the seniors. When I saw she was 9 years old it was a total OMG moment! I had to call. She was a stray and had been at the shelter since July 24th. No one had come looking for her.
We took her out to the exercise area to get acquainted. She came right up without hesitation. I held her up for my grandmother to see and Betty jumped right over onto her lap. Made herself comfortable. When we went back inside to do the paperwork Betty rode on my grandmothers lap and stayed there while we waited to do the paperwork. I think she would have ridden home on my grandmothers lap in the car if I had let her.
Betty is settling in nicely. She doesn't like to be left alone. Who can blame her? In the meantime, I'm delighted to welcome Betty White into my family.

Betty is on Twitter as @ABettyWhite. Naturally she follows @BettyMWhite.

As of 11/27/12 Betty has 94 twitter friends; I have 10.

Make that 96 followers for Betty Ann. By the way, Betty joined a twitter gang. She's now a princess in the #MalteseMafia!

1/7/13 Betty and I are going back to school. Orientation is tomorrow and next week we begin basic obedience classes. We've been working on our own, but we're ready for some professional instruction. Plus there are some things Betty needs extra work on if she's going to pass her CGC (Canine Good Citizen) test.

That's great to see a sweet dog getting a loving forever home. Many forget that the older animals, while not as playful, are great companions and often are already trained. I wish you great happiness together!
