Walked in my first 5K
Sunday, October 07, 2012
Today Oct 7th, 2012 I walked in my first 5K. It was the Susan G. Komen race for the cure in Denver. Had to get up really early at 5:30am. I work 2nd shift so no where near my usual getting up time. Left for the park-n-ride at 6:30am.
This is a picture from the bus ride into the city.
I am so glad the event set up park-n-ride locations, shuttle bus, and e-rail service to be able to get downtown without worrying about parking.
Here we are on the way to the starting line. 40,000 people plus me, my husband, and son.
Just approaching mile marker 1.
Approaching mile marker 2.
Approaching mile marker 3.
The finish Line
Here is what it looked like going around the last bend and heading for the finish line. You can see all of the people going across the bridge are going to be following down the off ramp.
It took us just over 1 hour to complete. It was hard to build up to much speed with so many people. Temperature at start was 27 degrees. Had to dig my thermals out of the drawer and dress in layers.
All 3 of us really enjoyed this Sunday outing together and want to go it again next year.
