This past Friday was a major shopping day for me. For the first time since I've started losing weight, I decided that I was going to go clothes shopping in exclusively non plus size clothing stores. It was somewhat of an experiment, as I thought myself to be in that no-man's land between plus and regular size clothing. In some areas I was pleasantly surprised. In others, still a bit disappointed. But overall, it was a good shopping day. Between the hours of 2:00-9:00 I visited about 20 stores, and ended up spending about $600. Not so great for my wallet, but I'll just be adding that to my vacation budget so I won't feel so guilty. Yes, I am very sneaky with myself when it comes to finances, which I'm sure will bite me in the behind some day...
Anyhow, I ended up buying the following:
*4 shirts - two large and two medium (!). In all honesty, one of the medium shirts is a bit too tight, but the store didn't have any large left, and I fell in love with it. It's dark purple, and form fitting and has a great hippie-ish patchwork kind of pattern embellished with velvet accents. It's just too pretty, and I think I only need to lose about five pounds for it to fit me perfectly. The other sized medium shirt fits me just right!
*1 lacy black little dress (even though it was hanging with shirts, I'm pretty sure it's a dress), size large. It has this stretchy black slip underneath, which is a bit snug, but the lace bit fits just right, and you can't really tell the slip is too tight underneath. The lace is just sooo pretty. Lace is one of my favourite fabrics and I can't get enough of it! The slip part of the dress will probably fit me better after about another five pounds of weight loss.
*1 pair of super skinny purple jeans, size 13. This is where I was most disappointed. I had been hoping to fit into a size 12, but this was not the case. My size 14 pants from plus sized stores are now all pretty big on me, so I was pretty sure I could get into a twelve. Alas, I was wrong. I'm pretty sure plus sized store sizing must be a bit bigger than regular stores, since I tried on some size 14 pants, and while they were a little bit loose, they weren't nearly as loose as the ones I already had. Unfortunately, most stores don't seem to carry size 13's. So I guess I'll just have to lose some more weight before I buy any new pants.
*1 knee length, form fitting, gray leopard print skirt, size 14. This will probably be too big for me before long, but it was decently priced, and it was just too cute to pass up.
*1 black wool coat, size large. This was the most exciting find for me! I don't normally care about brand names, but I do know that certain brands make smaller clothes. My coat is made by Guess. Now what I found so exciting was that I tried on an extra large Guess coat and it was too big for me!!! Imagine! Guess made an article of clothing that was too big for me. I was flabbergasted. The large size fits a bit snugly, but it buttons up and looks quite good on me, nonetheless. I think that by the time I start wearing this in December, it might even be slightly loose on me, which is good, so that I can wear bulky sweaters underneath it for the winter.
*Several pairs of tights (M/L size), both lace patterned and opaque, a really awesome black scarf with a pattern of white stars, a plain black leather belt (finally!), and the cutest pair of purple slippers covered in black lace and with black bows on them.
*1 pair of black leather mid-calf boots. They're kind of motorcycle/engineer style I guess, with two buckles on the sides. I really like them. I went to several stores looking for boots and couldn't find anything I like, so breathed a sigh of relief when I found these in the last shoe store I went too, when I was already exhausted. What I really want to own eventually, is a pair of really sexy knee high leather boots, but my calves are still too fat for that unfortunately.
*On top of all that, I bought a purse and pair of shoes for my mother, and several treats for my kitties. Yes, it was a very expensive day!
Yesterday was my weekly weigh-in, and I was elated, and somewhat surprised, to see that I had lost a further three pounds. Last week was four, and this week was three. I'm on a roll, and I don't want it to stop (although I know weight loss as fast as this cannot possibly last!). So this means I'm down to 167, only two pounds away from my revised Providence goal, and twelve pounds away from my Christmas goal (inspired by the lovely Amytripp!). I've lost 60.5 pounds altogether, and am 32 pounds away from my ultimate goal of 135. And, although I know I really should not put too much stock in it, I'm finally out of the obese range of the BMI. Hooray! I still hate that word with a passion! Now, I am 26 pounds from being at a healthy weight according to the BMI. That sounds much more achievable considering I've already lost twice that much weight.
As anybody who regularly peruses my journal can see, I'm in much better spirits today than I was all last week. I just want to thank everybody for their kind and encouraging words when I was feeling so down. I still have to face two Thanksgiving dinners this weekend, but I am feeling strong enough to do so at the moment. I hope everybody is having wonderful weekend!
