Oh Sparkers... It's been a while since I last blogged. I keep thinking I need to get back into the Spark habit.
I basically gave up. I'm still maintaining but I haven't lost more like I wanted to. I've upped my calories lowered my calories exercised more exercised less, still no change. So I kinda gave up.
My summer was busy. Then I started working. But I've stayed consistent with my workout schedule.
Friday, September 28 was my regular Friday run with my Moms Run This Town Sole Sisters... We ran caruth path. I saw the tree trimmers when we began but didn't think anything of it. Ran the entire path. It was hot & humid. I wasn't expecting that & didn't bring my water. So I stopped at the water fountain a few times.
At the end of the run I stopped again for water. I walked a bit to cool off and regain my bearings. I went around a few MRTT mommas with their strollers. The tree trimmer either didn't see me or didn't plan on a runner without a stroller coming on the path.
Branches were falling and buff oak acorns were falling off the branches as they hit the ground. Rolled right out under my feet. It was like running on marbles. My right ankle rolled under me. I fell down, tried to catch myself with my left hand. Didn't get my hand out in time I guess... Cuz my arm/wrist took the brunt of the fall.
I knew something was hurt when I stopped rolling. For a moment I couldn't decide what hurt worse. My arm or my knee or my ankle. But when I tried to sit up it was obvious it was my arm! OMG My arm was broken.
I whipped my phone out had the girls call my husband & 911.
The ambulance came. My runner girls took good care of me. :). My husband arrived. We headed to the hospital.
X-rays fluids good meds. Within about an hour we had a name for my pain. Smiths Fracture. Broke my radius bone clean off of my wrist.
I had surgery about 6:30 that night. Got to go home the next day.
I have never been in so much pain. When the pain meds wore off I thought I was gonna die.
Wednesday I got a cast. And saw the stitches in my arm. From my wrist about 3 inches down my arm. Saw my X-rays and all the stuff in my arm. A plate and at least 4 screws.
It's been quite the painful week. I swear I contracted the stomach bug as well. *sigh*
But I have good friends & family taking care of me.
My PTA family started meals for me.
My running family signed up immediately.
I've had cards & flowers delivered.
My husband has (suddenly) found his domestic skills! He cleans, does laundry & dishes. Better than me!
I get the cast off October 26th!! Depending on how much healing I've had I'll either get another cast for 3 more weeks. Or a brace for 3-5 weeks. I can't drive. I can't shower. I can't do many exercises. i cant run. Friends I can't even open a ziplock Baggie!!
But I am improving. My pain level is beginning to be manageable. I've learned how to make coffee with one hand.... So all is well!! :)
I can walk he said not fast or far, but when the swelling goes down I can walk. I think I'll try the elliptical next week. And I'll do lower body work. Leg lifts, squats, abs. Things that don't require balance. :)
Other than that. All is well. Kids are doing well in school. Hubby's is still riding his bike and has lost a few pounds. Yay!!
I hope all is well with my SparkPeeps!! I'll keep you posted on my progress! Hoping ill be able to run the turkey trot this year.
My goal is to train for the Renegade Run in March. Anywhere from 8-13.1 miles. I haven't decided yet. It'll depend on my ability to get back out on the road.
