Old Habits try to take me over

Saturday, October 06, 2012

Today I was shopping for a few things, I reminded DH about getting treats for the kids...he said don't do it on my account.....okay so I'll do it because I love seeing the little kids all dressed up....
We talked about getting payday bars as he likes them and if we don't pass them all out he can finish them off..that seemed to be the end of that discussion.....we to a few more store and went home, the candy talk was history.....
well at least I thought it was....I had to run back to the store to get a thermometer for the roast we are smoking tomorrow, the one we had is gone....

So I picked up a few more items, impulse things, will get you every time, by this time the tummy is growling and I am feeling hungry, my body started right for the huge display of candy, I got out of line and started walking towards the CANDY.....then my brain to over, it said where do you think your going.....for candy.....stop right now it screamed in my head, you don't eat candy and junk food any more....IF you decide to give out treats this year they will be bought Oct. 31 and not a day sooner.. so march back in line and remember you have fresh food at home to eat....

so even after all this time those ugly old habits can sneak up on you.....well at least on me, seeing all the candy, there were treats on nearly every isle no matter what else they were selling there was candy, popcorn balls, candy and caramel apples, it's enough to make a person loose there strength...
I am proud of myself for not giving in to my junk food desires....

I'm thinking of getting something not so junking....like small microwave pop corns, or pretzels, raisin, I think I'll feel better about it...

have a healthy week end.....

That would be a great idea and healthier for the kids too instead of so much candy! Or how about apples, or a piece of fruit?

You totally rock, Kitt! Lots of other folks wouldn't even hear their inner voice, or they'd stand there and argue until they weaken themselves to the point of giving in. You listened and stood your ground, and you showed us how it should be done. You, friend, are becoming stronger day by day! Hugs to ya!!

emoticon WTG on listening to your inner guidance! I was reading an interesting book that mentions food cravings can be our body's cry for certain nutrients and not necessarily the actual food you are craving and if you can figure out what your body is crying out for you can make healthier substitutions.

Good for you for resisting your urges and listening to your inner voice!! Very impressive! Keep on keeping on! I like the idea of NOT purchasing your Halloween treats until the day of Halloween!!!

Way to go on resisting temptation! This is bad time of year for trying to resist candy, it's everywhere! I have a hard time the day after Halloween when it all goes on clearance.

It happens to me too, Kitt. I will just head towards something junky without even realizing it. Its almost like being on auto pilot or something. I have to really get ahold of myself and say "No, you don't want that!" I know I can have a treat every once in a while, but I will always have to be on guard. Its worth it, though!

Bravo for not giving in to the call of the calories, er candy! Everytime I am in line I see my own personal weakness, chocolate anything! I go so far as to pick one up, flip it over and look at the sugar content. That is when I see my poor little finger getting stuck and the number on the meter sky high and I hear the doctor say it is time for drugs and by that time I put it down and walk away from the temptation. Now if only I could walk away from baked goods I would be on my way!

I know, Kitt, the stores are out to get ya!! I not only try not to buy the goodies but I am now trying to be extra careful about what I am spending and I am finding that almost easier than the not buying the goodies. Because to save the money, I have to just say no. You did great.

Kitt, I hear ya! I pass out little pumpkin decorated bags of mini pretzels that are made by Snyders. Here in Ohio, you can buy them at Meijer. emoticon
