I Did It! Registration For My First Half Iron Triathlon :)

I finally took the plunge and registered for the REV3 Series 70.3 in Wisconsin Dells.

1.2 swim, 56 miles on the bike, 13.1 miles on the run.

Race date August 11th, 2013.

As alot of you know, I have been tossing this around for some time. These last few bike rides, especially the last one convinced me that I am in shape enough to start training. All of my long rides would have put me WELL within the bike cutoff time for half distance 56 miles must be completed in 4hrs 20 min or less.

My stats for my long rides have been:
53 miles - 3hrs 30 min
42 miles - 2hrs 29 min
75 miles - 5hrs ... at mile 60 of this ride my time was 4hrs 5 min.

My open water swim time is about 45 min for a 1 mile swim, cut off is 1 hr 10 min for 1.2 miles and that is without any real serious swim training.

My run is about 3hrs for half marathon.

Granted, these times are not done all together but they do tell the story that I think it is time to set a goal and start training seriously, I have the basic fitness and it can only get better from here. What really got me thinking about doing this was how well I did on my 75 mile ride. I not only did the distance but I had my nutrition and pacing dialed in to the point that I maintained a 14.9 mph average pace over the entire 75 miles. Best yet, I had tons of energy after the ride and could have either gone further OR gone into a run....

I did something right...for a change :)

All of this has given me reason to believe that I have what it takes now to start training for this event.

Cut Off Times
HALF REV:
Swim Cut-off:
The swim cut off is 1:10:00 from start of the last swim wave.

Bike Cut-off:
You must finish the bike course within 5:30:00 following the start of your swim wave.

Run Cut-off:
8:30:00 from the start of the last swim wave.
