I Tri'd and Conquered!

Friday, October 05, 2012

This post comes way late...but hey, like they say, better late than never right?

I finally completed my Triathlon (Aug 25, 2012)! It was a Sprint Triathlon which means that I swam 300 meters, Biked 16.5 miles and then finished off with a 5K (3.1 mile) run. The morning of I was very nervous. I always worry about not being able to finish, maybe being the heaviest person out on the course or finishing dead last. Crazy to worry about these things as the main goal is to just be active and try right? Well, I was able to finish (and not last) and was very proud of myself afterwards. My husband and I had done this race for our 6 yr Anniversary. He came in first in his age group and I came in 3rd in mine. What a great day for us both! Glad to have this experience under my belt!

Now, I'm trying to figure out what my next goal should be. I have done a 5k, 10k, Half Marathon and a Full Marathon, and the latest Sprint Triathlon. I have continued to run 2-3 times a week and do fitness classes 2 times per week. I really would like to train for another Marathon but there are two things that are standing in my way. 1. What if I become pregnant before the race? My husband and I have been trying for 6 1/2 yrs and have not been able to as of yet. We have done every fertility treatment except for invetro so it would be a true miracle if I did. But I believe God is still in the miracle business so anything is possible. And my tight-wad self dont want to put the money out there and then it not be refundable. I guess I need to look for a race that is refundable? 2. Finding a running buddy that is willing to train with me. I am not super fast (10 min miles) but I enjoy the endurance part of long distance running. I have asked a couple different people I know to train and everyone was not willing to go long distances yet. Wishing I could find a group close by that would. And that wouldnt mind my 10 min mile pace..lol. I really have no desire to be able to run super fast. I just enjoy being out there.
