My new normal

Friday, October 05, 2012

This morning I needed to take a package to the UPS store that Bossdear had prepared for shipping the night before. Two years ago, I would have simply grabbed the package, jumped in the car, and driven the .8 miles to the UPS store. I would have done that without even thinking about it. It would simply not have occurred to me to get there and back any other way.

This time, realizing that the package was not that large or heavy, I could just carry it and walk to the UPS store. My next thought was, since I was going to be out already, I could work in a short run. So, instead of taking the car, I changed into my running gear, strapped on the Garmin, did a brisk walk with the package the .8 miles to the UPS store, and did a relatively easy 3.5 mile run while I was out.

And it seemed like a perfectly normal thing to do.

This is what life is all about. Living well, living in motion, and realizing that's exactly how it should be. Wonderful!

Exactly! Save gas, get exercise. Mr. Spock would be proud of your logic.

YAY! Isn't it awesome to see how our thought process changes over time?

I loved it when I realized I was thinking "when do I get to run?" rather than "when do I have to run?" :)

That is the best kind of normal. Congrats.

It wasn't that long ago that I would never have considered walking the 2.5 mile round trip to Walgreen's. Now that's a great excuse to get out in the afternoon.
