Weight Wars: A New Bet

I have a new bet going.

My best guy friend and I were talking about how our motivation and consistency has been lacking and we made a bet. The winner is the person who attends the gym the most this month. The loser pays for us to go bowling.

Next month, once both of us are more consistent with our workouts, we'll add Fitness Minutes. Whoever works out the most wins.

I'm actually really excited about this. I think that I do better when I have some competition. Also, I know I can beat him. Even if I don't, I know I'll try. And either way, spending time bowling with him is always a win!

We picked bowling as a reward because going out to dinner has the potential to derail the work we've done. We also decided that if we want to replace bowling with something else, then that's fine.

I am competitive by nature. I might not always win, but I LOVE competing. I like teasing each other and one-upping the other. I push myself harder if I know it counts more.

I know that I should do this for myself, and the reason that I am focusing on weight loss is all about me, but I have a hard time remembering that I'm worth it. It's so easy a few weeks or months in to give up because I'm not seeing the results I want.

Also, weight loss challenges are tough because as soon as I feel like I'm not losing as fast, I concede. Catching up with a person who can lose 5 pounds in a week seems like a battle that I can't ever win.

Also, this friend of mine needs a nickname. I can't decide. I call him RockStar a lot, but I call a lot of people RockStars. I also call him Dork. But he calls me that too. I dunno.....I could stick with my Star Wars theme and call him Han Solo. I will think about it and figure something out.


OCTOBER CHALLENGES:
Challenge #1 - Workout (1/27 days)
Challenge #2 - Complete my daily To-Do list. (4/31 days)
Challenge #3 - Smile and make eye contact with at least 10 people every day. (4/31 days)
Challenge #4 - Run 1.5 miles two times per week. (0/8 days)
Challenge #5 - Track calories eaten. (4/30 days)
Challenge #6 - Print calorie/workout tracker for Yoda. (0/4)

    I love the Star Wars theme idea, but I am a complete geek. At my old job and my old account team, we had a Emperor Palpatine, C3PO, and I was Yoda while my trainee was the young apprentice. It made IM's and account team discussions all the more entertaining.

I like the competition idea. I had a lot of success with biggest loser challenges at my previous employer. Even $5 in the pot was worth it to potentially win $50 bucks.

    Oh, yeah, you should TOTALLY feel bad about needing competition to help get fit because NO ONE ON SP TOTALLY DOES THAT LIKE THE 5% CHALLENGE OR THE BIGGEST LOSER OR BL20 CHALLENGES NOPE NOBODY EVER.

I'm competitive, too, but I'm a sore loser, so I try to avoid competitions with my friends. I'm trying the SP challenges to see if that can help me lose the rest of my weight, but so far I haven't noticed much of a difference. Maybe because I'm just too darn busy. -.-

    Sounds great! Competition is how I stay motivated as well. I compete against myself, and my fat, but if I don't stay signed up for races so I can SEE my times, I "forget" to run... :-/

    Nice! I have 2 contests going with 2 different people this month!! I have a weight loss contest with my girl friend and a "who can spend the least amount of money" contest with my fiance! I love contests!
