Day 5 of posts regarding The Metabolic Typing Diet by William Wolcott
According to the book, there are three metabolic types with corresponding foods and food combinations that are best for them.
1) slow oxidizer -- low protein, low fat, high carb
2) fast oxidizer -- high protein, high fat, low carb
3) mixed oxidizer -- relatively equal amounts of protein, fat, carb
The book includes a 65 question test to allow the reader to determine their type.
The types are not rigid, but rather more on a continuum.
Personal reactions and processing:
My results were that I am a mixed oxidizer, very close to the fast oxidizer. I had very little answers in common with slow oxidizer. I determined that I should be eating more fat!
I have traditionally tried to cut out fat as much as possible (always no or low-fat dairy, salad dressings, dessert, snacks). I figured because I ate meat (always lean) I was getting enough fat. I am now experimenting with adding fat to my diet. I will share some details in tomorrow's blog.
