Dancing? Yoga? Apparently!

Well, a few months ago, we bought a Groupon for three intro lessons at Arthur Murray Studios. So last Friday, we had our first class... and my legs were cramping and noodley afterwards, but it was SO much fun, so when we got home, Hubby rubbed "magic cream" into my calves, and the next day we went to the Tacoma Museum of Glass, and spent about four or five hours checking everything out and watching artists at work. SO COOL.

Sunday, we took a big risk and used ANOTHER Groupon (sensing a theme here, anyone?) to take the whole family for a weight loss hypnosis class. Since we're Christians, I was a little concerned about potentially putting ourselves and out kids (who are grown, but still) in a conflicting spiritual atmosphere, but it turned out to be a very clinical, secular, non-religious, non-hippie experience overall. The jury is still out about how well any of it worked, though one of my daughters is claiming that she's not as tempted by the cookies at work. I'm not feeling the pull of peanut butter toast as much as I did before, and there was some cool visualization stuff that we got to do, so it's still a process.

Monday night Hubby made Hungarian Beef Parikash for dinner, with some sauteed cabbage in bacon and onions and garlic. AWESOME eats! And then Tuesday evening was a group class for the waltz, which was a lot of fun, I didn't expect to enjoy that one as much as I did, and after class they had a "dance party" that I didn't have the gas for... my leg was giving me grief after only one or two dances, so we sat out for a few and joined in for one or two and sat out some more and eventually left early.

Wednesday morning was yoga stretching in the living room. I had a regular stretching date with a girlfriend, but she had the stomach flu, so I did it by myself, and I was pretty proud of myself for doing it anyway! The stretching from the yoga really helps my legs recover, and I'm going to start pursuing it seriously, since the flexibility in my lower back is a LOT less than I remember it being... my hips are totally locked up!

So tonight's dance class was another private lesson, and we rocked it. This is so much fun, we signed up for another package of four lessons, which includes unlimited access to group lessons and the "dance parties" on Tuesday and Friday nights. It's a great workout, and it's a lot of fun to be dancing again, and on top of it all, dancing with my hubby is a real treat. I can't wait until I start feeling graceful and talented again!

So the OTHER thing I did today was call a yoga studio that a friend frequented before she moved out of town. They issued a Groupon for 2 weeks for $30, but it's a strictly HOT yoga studio, and I don't know if I can handle the heat. So when I called they offered me a coupon for two weeks for FREE! So my first class is Saturday afternoon at 4:30. We'll see what there is to see through the sweat and strain. I hope they can handle a big girl like me!

    Thanks! My schedule worked out that I could take the first class today, and it was INTENSE but SO good. I'm not able to do a lot of the standing poses yet, but I can modify them for the floor, and the floor hatha poses are wonderful. It took me about 10 minutes to really get used to the heat, and once I got over it, it went really well until about 6 mins in before I got kinda woozy. I need to hydrate better in future, but I'm going back for sure.
