50 is getting closer

Thursday, October 04, 2012

The days leading up to my 50th birthday are going too fast and my progress too slow. I feel fat, tired and unmotivated. It's getting dark before 7:00 which has brought my weekday biking to a hault--this saddens me. The time between October and January is my most difficult. Candy is on display everywhere, and social events have picked up. I'm frustrated and disappointed at my lack of control. I cannot afford this attitude, especially as the summer season ends. This time of year is when it takes everything I've got to keep up with my workouts when the early darkness makes me want to curl up with a book in bed, and the cooler weather brings on the cravings for warm comfort food--not fruit and salads.

I've read a lot of Sparkpages lately and there are countless people who have slipped back into old habits and gained some or all their lost weight back, and there are many who really seem to have made the lifestyle change like it's second nature. I have an idea in my head of what it takes for me to maintain my weightloss, but it has never, ever felt natural.

I have also seen many Sparkpages where people have listed very specific short and long-term goals, at it looks so motivational. I've never been good at setting short-term goals, so I decided to make that my first goal (lol).

Step 1: Have at least 3 short-term goals written out by this Sunday, along with a plan on how to achieve them.

50 has come and gone for me, only by about 4 years. However, I try not to think about it as getting older because I am in better shape now than I was 10 years ago. I love your first goal :-)

plan plan plan and a place (i make a calendar that list the 3 goals for the month) that each night or morning you check off if you meet the goal. small goals for me 1Use Idrate (iphone app to drink more water) 2 use mindful bite (another iphone app ) to slow my eating down at least once a day. 3 eat at least 3 veg and 1 fruit a day. I check it off on the calendar each night I don't except to be perfect just better I will carry over the new habits, I want in my life, to the next month if the goal has not become a no brainier.

Find a method that works for you and than now and believe in your personal strenght
If something is important to us we find a way if not we find an excuse.
Best of luck

I am very big into setting achievable goals. When I first started losing weight I was in such terrible shape that at first, I just concentrated on eating less. Then when I started exercising it was 15 or 20 minutes walking 5 days a week. I was very adamant that I would not walk more than 5 times in a week, LOL. But as moving became easier and I felt better, I started doing more and setting higher goals. It was months before I started coming up with specific weight goals.

I guess my (long winded - sorry!) point is I set my goals pretty low at first so I would achieve them and eased into the really big goals I eventually accomplished. I am always impressed when I see super organized short and long term goals, but the "achievable" approach ended up working well for me.

I your idea of setting three goals and thinking out your plan.. That is an excellent place to start! Good luck!

I LOOK BACK ON MY FIFTIES AS MY 'VESUVIOUS' ERA.
EVERYTHING I'D TRIED TO SUPPRESS FOR DECADES KEPT BLURTING OUT!
I ASKED FOR WHAT I WANTED AT LAST, AND MY SIXTIES ARE A LOT MORE FUN THAN THEPREVIOUS FORTY YEARS, AS A RESULT.
THERE'S BEEN WEIGHT YO-YOING, AS I AVOIDED EMOTIONS TOO SCARY TO FACE.

NOW,I'D RATHER BE HAPPY IN MY OWN BIG SKIN, RATHER THAN SELF-CRITICAL, WISHING I WAS THINNER,ALWAYS DESPERATELY PROVING TO OTHERS THAT I MAY BE BIG, BUT I'M OK.

PLEASE CELEBRATE AND SPARKLE ON YOUR 50TH BY GIVING YOURSELF A WONDERFUL LOOK ON THE DAY, NO MATTER WHAT YOUR WEIGHT IS!
ENJOY YOUR GOAL SETTING!
I HAVE THE OPPOSITE PROBLE.
SO BUSY SETTING SO MANY GOALS THAT I SPEND TOO MUCH COMPUTER TIME TRACKING THEM, NOT ENOUGH TIME MOVING TO SHED THE WEIGHT!
AT LEAST, SPARKPEOPLE HELPED ME REALISE THAT!
