Preparing to travel?

Thursday, October 04, 2012

With the holidays coming I know many are getting ready to travel, many of you will fly. many will go by car or train. Those going by car will have the easiest time planning, You don't have as many restrictions on size and weight, also you can carry your snacks.

Remember exercise. If you will have internet access you can do SP videos, many of them don't require equipment. If internet access is going to be iffy at best, make a list of exercises you can do using body weight. You can find them on SP fitness too and they will even let print off the directions. You might want to try the exercises before you go so you know you know what you are doing.

If you are flying, remember to check with the airline about what foods you can carry with you. The rules change so much I won't even try to tell you what you can do, but I do know that even though we normally say go easy prepared foods. Foods and drinks in unopened containers are more executable. I do know that when I went to visit DS, I could only carry bottled water and I had to buy it at the airport after clearing security.

If you have weight restrictions, or you airline limits the # of bags.

You can only carry 3 oz of liquids, but weather you are carrying it or packing it. You don't need more then 3oz. If you are only going for a weekend and can find smaller bottles, use them.

Get smaller versions of your hair equipment. A smaller hair drier and curling iron might take longer to use, but save money if your airline charges by weight or # of bags.

Take clothes that can be mixed and matched to make several outfits. Check with your family to find out the weather, what kind of clothes you need and weather or not their is laundry access.

If you don't have an ereader or tablet and are thinking about getting one, now is a good time. Books and games take up a lot of room and are heavy. I know the kindle. You can get a small one for $40. I have 41 books on mine right now that I got for free. I have 700 books on my computer that I have gotten for free over the years. I have 14 free games on my kindle. No it isn't angry birds, more like scrabble, but free and good for traveling. If you get a tablet, you can get an app for books, get even more games and movies. I'm told old IPhones are good for movies and games for children. Maybe other smart phones will work, I just don't know.

I know there are people that want real books and games, sorry but for traveling the real thing needs to stay at home.

Enjoy your trip, just think ahead to minimize the stress and cost.
