Preparing for Tomorrow

Thursday, October 04, 2012

Overnight we are supposed to get our first freeze. That means a little fire in the woodstove - just enough to keep things warm inside.

I'll exercise in the morning to get the juices flowing then enjoy another bowl of my oatmeal, spelt and flax mix. Maybe I'll put pumpkin and baking spice mix in it like I did today. emoticon For lunch maybe a spicy taco-style salad so full of flavor and veggies I can pick at it instead of opening the icebox and staring. emoticon

I know just because of the chill and the first fire of the year I'll be in one of those homey moods. The first chill I learned a trigger point was the aromas that filled the air. This time I will not start my low-sodium vegetable soup until late afternoon. emoticon When I do indulge I'll be sure and measure and track it. No random sampling!

Dessert is planned, too. Baked cinnamon apples with a thin layer of filo topper. Since that doesn't take long to bake so I'll do it after dinner so I won't be tempted.

Another thing I'll be prepared to do is work on crafts to keep my hands busy. I'll even write letters to family and friends. It will be a break between autumn cleaning and the 5k walk/run on Saturday.

Yes, I'm prepared this time!

It really is wonderful to learn what helps us keep on track. My worst trigger for overeating is being tired. I am gradually learning to lay down to rest or nap rather than eat.

Oh that sounds so nice, and as you say homey. Really makes me miss winter and having a wood fireplace.
Around Feb we'll have some nights where it gets down low enough to have a light frost.
Yes we are in Florida, but more like lower Alabama (some times called LA).

I love those little fires in the woodstove! We expect our first freeze here usually sometime around Nov. 15, but many times it comes much later than that. Usually the night before our first expected freeze I'm running around trying to bring those last tender potted plants in.

Yes--the food sounds good. I love the homey aromas of a pot of soup or beans. Good plan to start it later in the day!
