Run Fat boy Run

Thursday, October 04, 2012

I used to run as part of my weekly cardio. It was MUCH harder than the elliptical for me, and I sweated my butt off. But I did it b/c it was a change up and it was different.

Then I bought new running shoes from VArunner. Very expensive brooks that were for my medium gait and were neutral. I ran in them 4 times and my knee hurt so badly I couldn't walk. I hadn't really run since.

Last week I ran 2 miles for the first time (new, new shoes with a Dr. shoals $50 insert) and it sucked, badly. I rather gave up at this point. I thought I could no longer run, and that it was time to look elsewhere for cardio b/.c that ship had sailed

Yesterday was different for some reason. I got to the gym, only had an hour for cardio (had to move lifting to Friday due to time constraints). I decided to run. I ran, and it sucked (made more awful by my blu tooth headphones dying and having to listen to the two 13 year old girls say, "oh my God" 150000000 times).

Let me re-phrase....it SUCKED. But I made a decision to push through. My legs burned, I wasn't out of breath, but my feet ached, my knee was sore and I was thoroughly bored. But I pushed through. I knew my legs would kill the next day, and they do, but I pushed through.

This isnt a pat on the back (ok maybe a little b/c 5 miles was always one of my longer runs) but the moral is I pushed through. I will fail, in fact I am planning on failing tonight (thursday night football) but the moral is, I can do what I think I cant.

Good Hunting all

VA runner is a specialized running store where they measure your gait and your needs based on sample running etc. I bought these shoes after being evaluated. These new shoes just kill my knee for some reason. I decided to go the Dr. Shoals route for these new shoes before going back to VA runner. Ill look into the running programs. Thanks for the read!

ok first glad that you finished your run but i have some questions.

first have you ever been fitted for shoes at a specialty running store????? not a big box like dicks, footlocker etc. this is the most important a walker and especially a runner can do. failure to get properly fitted can lead to many injuries and many nagging problems like sore knees, ankles, hip and back pain just to name a few.

second why to you have dr sholes insoles? a running store will fit you with proper insoles if you need them.

third if you have not been running on a regular basis you need to start a basic training program such as the spark people 5k your way or c25k program on active http://www.coolrunning.com/engine/2
/2_3/181.shtml

you can do thing but do it in a healthy way
