I have a bud who is a well regarded race promoter in this area. He is also a USAC official so typically if he's not promoting and running a race, he's on the officiating crew. Even when he's an official he can find some way to heckle me when I go by.

I've been after him to race cx. The first couple years that I was racing, he was having back issues and couldn't even ride. A couple years back he did sign up for a race, but bailed because it was too cold (it was 17 deg F at race time, plenty warm enough). I really want to race him. I need somebody slow at the back with me so I don't get lonely.

Anyway, I'm off the bike until Oct 15 at the earliest. Guess who has signed up for races on Oct 6 and Oct 14? This hurts. My one soothing thought: I will be there to heckle and oh, will I heckle...and give him bacon hand ups. Maybe some beer hand ups as well. But, dang, seeing him out there is going to hurt.
