My birthday

Thursday, October 04, 2012

So this year's birthday wasn't too bad. It was actually better than what I thought it was going to be. Being deployed on your birthday is never fun so my expectations this year was pretty low.

The day before my birthday I received 4 care packages. Two from my mom. One from my husband. And one from friends who I consider family. Mom had actually sent me 1 card for every year I was celebrating. She's so silly, but that's why I love her. It was actually pretty cool. Of course all the cards went up on the "card wall." My husband sent me some books that I wanted. And the final package was a Betty Boop jacket. It was awesome. Too bad I can't wear it here. lol

On my birthday, I got up at normal time. Did my normal routine of working out and then head into work. I get into work and do the work thing. I had planned an outing for the shop to go downtown for dinner. (Yes, I'm at one of the safer locations in the Middle East. As long as there's proper planning and all red tape is taken care of, we are allowed to go downtown and enjoy the food and culture.) I got the final items needed for the little office trip. Then that afternoon one of the contracts that works with me brought in desserts. (I was told that I was NOT allowed to make my own birthday cake.) So there were cupcakes and Italian cake that's kind of like a tiramisu. It was awesome and yummy. Don't worry. I didn't over eat. I promise. Later that night we all went downtown for dinner and then we went to one of the malls here. It was great.

As a surprise, I was given the day after my birthday off. Days off is like gold over here. It was much needed. I had a very relaxing and productive day on this added day off. It was nice to be able to get things done that I needed to.
