I've been making my own trail mix lately, because the store bought is just too expensive. I've been buying the no-name nuts and either dried pineapple or cranberries to add a little sweetness - some day I will own a dehydrator and be able to do this myself.
Yesterday, I noticed that when I eat the trail mix, even though I portion it out, I grab a handful and chow down. It's gone before I'm even satisfied.
Today, I split the portion in half and put it on a paper towel. Instead of eating a handful, I ate one nut at a time and added a pineapple chunk after every 4 or 5 nuts. It lasted longer and I was satisfied when I was done - not being disappointed that it was gone.
Mindless eating can get us into trouble. Paying attention and focusing (there's that word again) on what we are eating makes food more satisfying.
