Running is A W E S O M E

Monday, October 01, 2012

Ok... I'm a little late getting this information posted but I am still on cloud 9. This past Saturday I ran my first 5K - Color Me Rad. If you have the chance to do this one you should as it was so much fun which really helps us beginngers. Here is the before with me all nice and clean.

I decided to run in the third heat just to be sure I wasn't in the way of people since I figured it would take me between 50-60 minutes to complete. I have not gotten much running done outside and this run was taking place on a bunch of trails. There were four color stations throughout the course where you were pelted with color. I quickly learned no matter what type of breathing I had practiced that when I am near the color bombs to keep my mouth closed. emoticon

When I came around the last bend and saw the agriculture building I got really excited as I knew that I was near the end. As I came out of the trees I could see the finish line. I just had a few more yards to go. I was sweaty and colored from head to toe. I saw my DH and dad ready to take my picture as I crossed the finish line... they never saw me. they said everyone looked the same. This is what I looked like after.

And just to give you an even better idea of how covered I was here is a pic of where the tattoo in the first picture is... no I didn't sweat it off it was just covered in all that color.

So for the results... I was finished in right under 40 minutes. They didn't have a clock to know exactly the time as this was more for the fun than the time but my trusty phone timer said 39 minutes and some odd seconds. I didn't really pay attention after I saw the 39 minutes.

So there you have it. I have finished my first 5K and I can't wait until my next one. I still have a ways to go before the half marathon in February but I know that I can because I already proved to myself I can do whatever I set my mind to do. Thanks for the support.

Way to go Shay!! Loved the pics! That's a great time for your first 5k! The color they throw on you - is it like chalk? Was it easy to wash off? Were you able to wash your shirt and the colors stay that way as like a souvenir from the run ( like a tye-dye shirt)? That would be so cool if it did :)
