Sunday apple picking

Sunday, September 30, 2012

Well, once again it is raining out but it didn't start till almost 2:30 so it did give us enough time to go on an adventure. Someone else was driving and we called it the scenic route, or going for a Sunday drive, because she had to stop and ask directions (twice) but we did eventually find it.

So cool, little trees with HUGE red apples on them. I spent almost $20 and they were 60 cents per lb, so how many lbs. did I get? A lot... And of course, we had to sample before we bought.... Hope they don't work like little green apples, or I could be running tomorrow. I have never heard of "Honeycrisp" apples before, but they're supposed to last the longest and they were delicious... The pears were weird, smaller and almost as "rough" as kiwi... kind of bland, but someone said they aren't ripe yet. And as in any outdoor fair type atmosphere, there was food. I had 2 batches of Cavendish deep fried potatoes, and a BBQ sausage.... (didn't have sauerkraut though)

Now, have to clean up the dishes, get supper and then make a lunch for the ladies coming over for a card party tonite...

must run..

We used to go apple picking every year. It's getting harder & harder to find the small orchards like people used to have around here. Apples are very scarce in our part of the country due to the drought & the freeze we had just as the blossoms were on, making what apples you do find expensive. There was a open air market with Honeycrisp here for $7.25 for 1/4 peck which is about 6 apples...too rich for my blood!!! Sounds like a fun day!!! emoticon

That sounds like a wonderful day. I love this time of year when you can really see and feel the seasons change. The Honeycrisp apples are one of my favorites also, they are delicious!
