Plateaus, the next level, continuous improvement

Sunday, September 30, 2012

I was fortuitous enough to listen to a selection of podcasts about plateaus, getting to the next level and continuous improvement.

It's always amazing to me how I get to hear what I need at the right time.

The big takeaways for me were the following:

1. Plateaus are a gift. Say that over and over again until you really internalize it and believe it. You are staying at a lower weight!! That is huge. It's to be celebrated! It's a wonderful thing to not be gaining and to be staying at a lower weight. Further, it's time for my body to settle in at this new weight. Finally, by accepting the plateau with gratitude and continuing to take care of myself, I'm allowing my body to ready itself to release more weight. And while I'm here, it's always great to focus on all the NSV's! There are so many!

2. To get to the next level, I need to send myself love! I've been hearing this message about needing to love myself unconditionally, as I am, for months/years now. But it's so true. The only way to reach my goals is to appreciate myself fully as I am now! Once I do that, and relax about my intentions, I make space for what I want to come to me easily.

3. Life is about continuous improvement. If I slip up, it's a chance to learn and grow. And as long as I reflect when I slip up, redo it in my mind or in my journal or verbally, see the lessons in the slip up, then I'm still well on my way to success.

Today my weight was up a little bit. I'm hoping to break this plateau and get to the next level as my birthday gift to myself. But I'm relaxed about it. If it doesn't happen, I'm still grateful for being at this lower weight now and for all of the NSV's I'm experiencing.

You are so right about all of this. I've just got the mindset now that plateaus helped me find the joy in maintenance. If you are only happy when you are dropping, that is really not sustainable forever, so plateaus are powerful things.

And yeah, they also suck a little bit, but you are clearly handling that part of it with no problem.

I'm so excited for you!!!

Great blog. A very positive approach to a frustrating state for most of us.

Thank you for your great sharing post! I KNOW all that, BUT I find that the more often I read, hear, and internalize those great TRUTHS, the more I truly start to believe them. I also have found that KNOWING and KNOWING IN MY HEART are two different things and the KNOWING IN MY HEART is what COUNTS.

Have a great "next level birthday gift" soon.
