I have not painted in a while but lately I just felt an urge to take a brush in hand and give it a whirl. This will be my first attempt at portraits in almost two years.
I thought I would give you a glimpse of what I do during the creation of my paintings.
I decided to paint a portrait of each of my grand childrens favorite horses. I plan to give them to them framed for a christmas present. Each painting is 14 X 20 and once framed they will be slightly larger depending on the frame I put on them.
My first photo is of Jemila...a three year old Arabian owned by my grand daughter Alexandra
Now here is JEMILA in a three tier product going from pencil to oil.
Here is the finished product.
My second painting is PEPPER - he is a Half Arabian and Half Paint. A beautiful creature that brought lots of laughter into the family. I gave him as a gift to my great grand daughter that has just started to ride. Emory is 3 years old and PEPPER is just the kid friendly horse for her.
The third portrait is of Rah (Sun God)... an Egyptian Stallion he is owned by my grand daughter Alexandra. Rah is 5 years old and getting ready to make his show debut next spring. We are looking forward to him bring in the ribbons.
Three step project from pencil to oil
Finished project on Wrap Linen Canvas
Here is the trio all finished soaking up the sun to set the finish I put over them. Next step is framing...I will take them off to a shop that makes frames up in the local town here. I think the girls will enjoy them. It will be the first painting I ever gave my great grand daughter...but I am sure in a few years she will appreciate it. Right now it will just be a horsey picture to her.
