Today is day 213 of my streak! emoticon

My streak is to eat 1200 to 1500 calories a day, and to exercise every day. (I usually get 60 to 90 minutes of exercise a day. I do at least 30 minutes of cardio, then I do DDP Yoga and a Spark workout video. Three workouts a day, spread throughout the day.)

I started my streak on March 1st, and after I got my starting weight (286 pounds) I decided to stop weighing myself. Instead of trying to just lose weight, I wanted to try to be as healthy as possible. I'm 51 now, and I have neglected my health for many years, but since I started streaking, my health has been a priority.

I did weigh myself on August 13 for the start of a challenge, and then again on September 3rd when the challenge ended...and I've lost 71 lbs since the start of my streak! I'm sure I've lost more since then, but since I'm not going to weigh myself again until New Years day, I have no idea how much more I might have lost.

Its so much easier for me to stay on track when I don't have to worry about the scale and how I will do on "weigh in day." Besides, non-scale victories are so much MORE rewarding for me. How can a number on a scale compare to a non-scale victory such as hubby being able to put his arms all the way around me? Or being able to wear that beautiful hoodie that I bought last year? (I wore a size 3x then, and the hoodie is a Large! It fits me now, but I can't wear it yet until I get a camisole or something to wear under it because its too low cut for me.) Non-scale victories are definitely the best!

Yesterday I had a really cool NSV. I was doing my DDP Yoga workout. I do my yoga in a little corner of the bedroom, between the end of the bed and the dresser. Its not a huge space but its where I like to do yoga. It just feels like a good place, for some reason. Nice and cozy.

Well, lately I've been thinking that something is just DIFFERENT about my little yoga spot. I couldn't quite put my finger on it, but I knew something was different. Then yesterday, while I was doing yoga, I started thinking to myself "Whats different? This space seems....bigger."

And then, just as I was about to ask hubby "Hey, did you move the furniture or something"....it hit me; the space isn't bigger. I am smaller!

I actually started to laugh a bit right in the middle of my workout! Hubby said "Whats so funny?" and I said "The room didn't get bigger, I got smaller!"

He didn't know what I was talking about at first, but then when I explained it to him he said "Well of course you're getting smaller" and then he went right back to his computer! So he wasn't impressed, but I sure was!

That was such an unexpected NSV! When it comes to NSV's, I usually look for stuff like fitting into certain clothes, or having more energy, etc. I never thought about something like having more room for yoga because my body is smaller now, lol.

I try to look for NSV's every day, and that one was one of the best so far!

Have a great weekend, Sparkers....I hope you have some NSV's to celebrate too!

I really liked your post. It really inspired me and I will definitely be using NSV. I have wanted to do this in the past but I can be so controlling that I gave all the power to that number on the scale. A NSV is all about the positive and can keep you focused.

Thank you.

    Thanks Pixie. Another great blog.

I know what you mean, about spaces, seeming bigger. I feel that way about the bath tub!
Keep up the great work!

So, I thought I would let you , know, that September was the healthiest month of the year, for me. Thank you, so much, for the idea.

I especially like the Acorn challenge, that Ashley and I have started. We are loving our new walking program.

Got any ideas, for October? emoticon

I had a similar realization on my drive back home from the gym this am. I can see the seat on both side of my legs!! I couldn't figure out what was different, so I was adjusting my seat at first, then it hit me at a red light; I have wiggle room! emoticon

What an awesome realization! I had one a few months back when I lost my first 14 lbs. I didn't even realize it at first. Cisco (14 lb pom) used to jump up and take a nap next to me in my recliner. He had found other spots and I thought nothing of it. When he jumped up one day and took his old position, I realized that there had been no room for both of us. After joining Spark on May 4, staying on track with eating, joining the 10 minute exercise club, in my 2nd week of 28-day Fitness Challenge and 14 pounds later, he had resumed his favorite spot. He fits even better these days. Keep on keepin on PixieFriend. I'm right there with you!

    Hi Pixie,
I just loved reading your blog today about your NSV. It's amazing the things we now notice now that we are smaller.
Lately I've noticed that I don't need the car door as wide open anymore or that when I go to an appointment I just pick any chair and fit in it with extra room on the sides.

Congratulations on your latest NSV. I know that you will have so many more to come!!

Big Hugs and healthy living,

Jane emoticon

That's an awesome NSV Pixie. I agree that they are better than any weight on a scale. The scale changes too much on a day to day basis and makes many people crazy. I'm really thinking to weigh Monday (the official start of my 100 mile for the month challenge) and not weight again for a month (maybe 2?) I get so inspired reading your blogs and watching your progress and the not worrying about a number seems very appealing! Still streaking on my end too!

Hi Pixie!! You know, when I read your NSV's, I celebrate with such joy that it feels like they are my NSV's too! Further, your blog today (and always, but especially today) is such a positive reminder of what matters in life. I've come to see that this journey is about so much more than weight, and the fact that you focus and fully embrace your NSV's with joy, helps me realize that more. I weigh myself daily, it's just my thing. But when the scale goes up a bit, it can be a real downer for me. And today it was up a bit. Reading your blog put everything in perspective. I have so many NSV's to celebrate! For example, I can run 1 minute faster/mile now. I can fit into clothes I never dreamed I could wear. I wake up feeling light and clean everyday. And my daughter sees a mother who eats to nourish her body, not for escape, comfort or abuse.

Thank you Pixie and congratulations! Please keep telling us and celebrating those NSV's. Oh, and get some more hugs! That was by far the best I've read!!
