Small Group Idea for Church

Friday, September 28, 2012

Our church has small groups each "semester" that can be anything from Bible studies, budgeting classes, knitting group, couponing, book studies, marriage group/class, etc. I even taught a workout group as one of the small groups before. Last semester I taught the Lysa TerKeurst "Made to Crave" group and used the Made to Crave DVDs and Made to Crave Action Plan DVDs. It was a huge success! Right now my husband and I are leading a marriage group (Jimmy Evans DVDs, Return to Intimacy. We have also lead his first DVD set- Marriage on the Rock- in the past). Since my passion is to help others become healthier and teach them how to take care of their bodies better, I am leaning in the direction of a group like that for the next "semester"- which will start in February. I have been following the "PrayFit" site on Facebook and just picked the book up yesterday from the library. I'm going to read through that and see if it would be a good book to use for the small group. My vision is to focus on a different food group and Bible verse each week. I plan to hand out recipes and workout ideas. I'm contemplating doing a short 30 minute workout for each group, not sure yet since this group will be co-ed. I'm excited for this, still in the planning phase.

What wonderful ideas! That is my passion too! I want to help people become happier, healthier. I had a dream of doing that one day in a church environment...What a great way to help others and inspire them in other areas of their life as well! emoticon emoticon emoticon

emoticon The one thing I have learned in serving God, is do something you're passionate about and you're passionate about healthy living and sharing it with others So Go For It! Keep praying about the small group and listen to what God's leading you to do and all the pieces will fall into place.
    Blessings !

That is a great idea! Our church once held a session that taught meditation, another was health, like flossing(dental), taking your own blood pressure, etc.. I worked at the hospital and I went to every one, even though I had been trained. It was nice to have this available . I applaud your commitment!
